Rack for older style MTB?

hi all, trying to find a rear cargo rack to mount on my '94 fuji discovery (your basic all-rigid, cantilever brakes, 26" wheels). i'm having trouble finding one that isn't in the modern style, i.e. doesn't require the seat stays to have the two outer spots to bolt onto. there is just a 'bridge' between the stays with a single hole where the reflector is bolted on. thank you!!!

Something like this will allow you to use the modern style racks. There are a lot of different models out there https://www.amazon.ca/M-Wave-Clamp-M...677429&sr=8-42

The two best solutions I know of are...

1- the seatpost clamp that Happy Feet posted.

2- Use a rack stay like this that uses the hole in the seat-stay bridge. It should work with just about any rack out there (shown with a Topeak Explorer):

I like Topeak racks. Great. Curious question..... Why mount it to the brake when you have braze-ons for a rack.??

Op... Here's another style that should work for you. It's just a sample. There are many brands out there to choose from. See the link....

Good eye. I was wondering if anyone was going to catch that.

On this size of this frame, the brake caliper blocks the rack mount on the non-drive side.

Oh ya. Right. I can picture that very clearly. Which brings up another question.... Albeit obvious..... Not original parts, correct.?? If so, I'd like to have a word with that engineer. lol.

The rack was not original, but I would have run into this issue with any rack needing to use that mount.

However, the calipers came stock with that frame. Maybe a different model by random chance would have cleared better, but I never bothered to find out.

Yes, some designer was not paying attention. I am pretty sure this was the only size frame that this was an issue with.

Edit: actually, it might not have been the caliper itself but the cable just above where it attaches to the caliper. Its been 10 years, so memory is foggy.

Noticed that as well but figured you were using what you got. Btw, which frame is that? You could probably make a brace to raise the bolts

Is that a salsa casseroll? That's what it looks like. I have one and same problem with the mounts.

Yep Salsa Casseroll. Size 47 or 48. What size is yours?

Really wonderful frame, IMO.

Salsa Casseroll. I could make a different brace, but why bother? It is a non-issue.

I'm guessing you're not overloading the rear. I've always unnecessarily overbuilt racks since my kids growing up would ride side saddle like the Dutch.
Anyways great looking color and love the horizontal drops on a modern bike.

Agreed about the frame; they're cool bikes. Terrible job on the placement of the rear rack braze ons though. Mine is a 56, same problem as yours.

Yeah, I’m not hauling kids. The Cass is not designed for heavy loads.

Isn't that something. I get it. Interesting. The frame is screaming 'I want a rack' and the brake is fighting back... 'that'll never happen.' Kinda cool.
