Looking at your post count, you seem to be quite ‘invested.’

Maybe the indicates that you're being facetious. I'm not quite sure. If you're not, it truly puzzles me that anyone would come to this kind of conclusion.

Me [arriving after school got out]: Hi Dad.
Dad: Lace up that rear wheel, the customer's coming in at 4 to pick it up.

Other than brake/shift controls, the only handlebar-mounted accessory on my road bike is a computer.. On my gravel bike, I have a computer and a bell. My MTB gets a computer, a bell, and left-side levers for dropper post and fork lock-out.

To "lace up a wheel" may sounds pretty old-timey, but I heard it al the time. My dad used to say it, so my grandfather probably said it, too (but he had Parkinsons when I was a kid, and I couldn't understand him). Technically, the word is appropriate, as you are drawing something -- a spoke -- through an eyelet -- a spoke hole.
Me [arriving after school got out]: Hi Dad.
Dad: Lace up that rear wheel, the customer's coming in at 4 to pick it up.
