Which is funny, because that's the tape I use, and when I tried to go gloveless for a ride on the trainer a couple weeks back, I had to stop when my hands started slipping on the tape. I must have extra-sweaty palms!

My tape is more tacky than the hoods - no slipping issues. That said, I almost always wear sun sleeves and find that it cuts down on the hand sweat considerably.

If I had to guess it's because there are plenty of new riders now because of the pandemic. Which means there are plenty of riders out there still in various stages of kit acquisition.

Like a lot of male BS, no gloves is about bravado. I was once in a minor paceline crash behind a proud no-gloves riding buddy. He went hands-first into the pavement. Still rides w/o gloves. Beats me.They'll say that it's about bike feel or some such nonsense, but we know what's really going on. Or maybe I'm totally wrong. Any women on here ride no-gloves?

I always wear gloves. If I"m planning on riding hills on the fix gear, I wear long fingered gloves to protect the skin on the sides of my fingers from the brake levers. ( I hate being two miles from the top and knowing I've already gone through my skin.)

I found my hands slipped more in the gloves than they did on the hoods or the tape (Fizik Endurance Tacky) so I ditched the gloves. I still use gloves on group rides or in cold weather but I usually end up with some blisters.

Sorry, I don't know where in the W burbs you are, but I crossed that bridge dozens of times each summer and was bummed when it was closed/torn down.

I started out with no gloves after finding out I hated padded gloves. One crash fixed that and I searched and found gloves without padding. Saved my hands this year when I crashed after my foot became not one with the shoe and I went down. Proud tan lined glove wearer for life.

I don't like gloves. I've had road rash on my hands and it's awful... but eventually I agree lazy and stopped wearing that.

It takes a lot of looking to find minimalist gloves these days. They've all got gel, which I hate. I go for zero padding gloves, and a snug fit. Hands don't slip in the gloves, gloves don't slip on the bar tape.

For full-finger gloves (I only wear gloves for warmth, so no fingerless for me), the Rapha Classics are awesome. Unfortunately, they're also ~$100, but I nabbed some for half off. Before buying them, I told myself that I'd never pay full price for them... but after having them, if I lost them during the spring/fall, I'd probably cough it up.

Yeah, I'm not gonna wear the Giro full-fingers off the bike. They've got bright blue logos on them. Mostly here it doesn't get cold enough to justify wearing gloves when you can just stick your hands in your pocket. I do have a pair of boring plain leather gloves for walking the dog, though.

How is bravado and BS the first thing that comes to mind, let alone the only reason even when people tell you other reasons they don't wear gloves when it's warm out?
I think I remember you saying you don't wear a base layer in the summer time because an added layer is insulation and doesn't cool you down. Which means you know what's really going on.
My friend Mary (who was born as Mary) doesn't wear gloves unless it's cold enough to need them. We rode together last weekend.

I wear merino glove liners. $20 or so. Just the right amount of warmth, breathe really well, and they stay warmish if you get caught out in the rain.

No gloves here. On hot days, it’s cooler without them. On cold days, heated bars work better.
