Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

2015 Regret Finds

This thread is for posting regret finds on eBay, Craigslist, others...

You know the type. People with too much money who are easily swayed by popular opinion. Posing hard like a statue.

They drop thousands on a bike because it is "cool" only to understand they have royally screwed up and are now trying to recover the cost. Bonus points for references to: Amount of money spent vs. selling price, "fixed life isn't for me", jackass mix of parts that aren't in and of themselves JA but when combined amount to JA, etc.

You never know, it might help someone who is looking find a deal.

This guy has been trying to sell this Superb Sprint for half a year now, has lowered his price down to 1K from the original $2300 asking price since then.

Nitto NJSP72 -- 44 mm Clamp -- BLACK
$179.99

Trying to figure out what this is and why it's so expensive.

Edit : Never mind, it's an over priced seat post.

Here in Hawaii all bikes are technically supposed to be registered with the State. It's meant as a theft deterrent and recovery method (it's an island, in the event of recovery from theft it proves ownership, including things like showing you didn't steal the bike you are selling on craigslist) and also supposedly the money is used to help with bike improvements on the island.

Most people with higher end bikes tend to register the serial numbers of the frame with the states registry. All new bikes sold in shops are required to register new bicycle sales to the new owners.

Aerospoke Front Wheel Black 700c Fixed Gear Fixie

"I bought this wheel for my son's track bike this last Christmas. It was used from a reputable online bike shop. Turned out to not be quite what my son wanted; he peered into the box and told me thanks, but no thanks, left me the box with the wheel within. I don't cycle so I'm listing it here, still packaged as it was when it arrived.

I have the original description from the bike store:
SPECS:
Brand: Aerospoke
Material: Resin Composites
Size: 700c
Type: Track / Fixed Gear
Width: 20mm
Depth: 43mm
Weight: 1699g

CONDITION: GOOD
- used with normal signs of wear
- bearings are smooth
- wheel has been spray painted black, original color appears to be white
- unknown miles
Lateral Runout: .31mm
Radial Runout: .47mm

If you're interested please email or call me to ask any questions or to come see the wheel."

Okay his son sounds like a total jackass.
And what the heck, he bought it from a bike shop, it was never ridden by his son, and it is still in packagings, but it is spray painted and listed as used. Very strange.
