I guess I don't consider anything reversible a travesty; the only stuff I really hate is when bits are hacked off of a very rare bicycle, which is far less common than most think.
The guy who puts a basket and SA hub on a Colnago sounds like q fun guy to chat with.

My first harlequin bar wrap that I did with second hand tape got some rave reviews. Funny, it's still on the bike like four years later.

when i got my g.record, it had a kickstand on it that imprinted the frame with its bracket.
i've bought several bikes that the previous owners just let rot. that's more of a travesty than mounting a kickstand, i guess. it takes a ton of work to refurbish a bike with lots of rust damage. these people should have been tarred and feathered at some point. or caned, whatever. i don't have one particular go-to as far as adequate punishment.

How incredibly rusty this 753 frame was when I got it. Luckily once stripped the metal wasn't even pitted
The rear brake cable was also hammered into the top of the seat tube so hard it left an impression on both sides the opening that had to be reamed out.

1972 Motobecane Le Champion, complete with April 1973 invoice from the LBS who sold it. So what's the problem, you wonder? Plural problems. Some were abuse, some were poor decisions on the component specs.
The OO painted it poorly to Moto black/red because he liked it. Since someone had already tried removing the rattlecan stuff I took more off the fork. Alas, the OO had sanded the original paint.
The pedal threads accepted the French pedals but they weren't happy and may have had English (or cross-threaded) pedals forced in.
The Stronglight triple crank seems like a great idea but the ring choices turn out to be pointless for any real use.
The Suntour bar-ends seem like a great idea but with that handlebar bend they are a long way's down, too far for me (at least) to reach comfortably.
The hub bearing cones are pitted from abuse or rust, and a hard-to-replace size, one of the earlier Record models.
The rock-hard Brooks Pro appears to be beyond useful life. (I really wouldn't know because I have little experience with good leather saddles.)
One of the Universal brake levers was cracked (now replaced).
Oh, and the BB fixed cup is really stuck. (Yeah, I know, it's French.)
Some of the parts were rusty but cleaned up with OA.
I really don't know what to do with this. I could keep the paint as-is and turn it into a stealth bike. The frame is really light, as expected. I could dump the whole project onto one of you. I don't think I could ride it much in its current configuration. I can understand why the OO abused it, since it probably wasn't much friendlier to him than it is to me. So I'm open to suggestions...

Funny to me, my Colnago came to me with the same blue color, HB tape & yellow brake hoods. Not sure yet what I will be changing the HB tape to yet but looking like a solid yellow.
I am also looking for yellow cable casing as mine has black at the moment, There was a seller on the bay selling in 4ft pieces but wouldn't sell 4½ -5 ft piece so I passed for now. Wasn't worth buying 8ft to have more than 3 ft leftover. My colnago is just solid blue with no white panels. Not sure of the model, pretty sure its an '82, wondering if might be Export model as I think it was all Gran Sport originally(still has brakes, headset, seatpost & left crank arm) but it does also have chrome lugs.

@bikenbruce - Superissimo has chrome lugs. Not long after buying the bike in 2009, I purchased NOS period correct cables/housing from YJ. I don't think they have any left. Do a search.

This is currently on eBay. It's made from Reynolds finest and most expensive tubeset (953 martensitic-aging stainless steel). It is correctly silver brazed together, which is also the only correct thing about it.

BB should actually be Swiss thread on a Moto, try turning the fixed cup the other way.
Save it till I've got a few more bucks and then sell it to me.
