Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It has gears. Maybe you could have put it in the geared bike thread.

Picked up some riser bars. DO NOT like how they look near as much as my drop bars. But I really dig how the bike rides and seems much more conventional for the city riding.

That bike would last about an hour here in Cleveland, with all that gold.

The Yankee candles really soften up this image.

Bianchi Rekord 74 FS/SS Conversion (PIC HEAVY SORRY)

It is an unseasonably nice day here in the Pacific NW. Finally sunny and ~60F so I took some shots of my winter project. I put up a pic of this earlier but I wanted to show some more detail for you now that I could get some decent shots. Craigslist find from about 2 years ago. It sat at Elliot Bay Cycles in Seattle (R.I.P.) for the better part of a year and in my garage for the remainder dirty and untouched.

This winter I finally decided to do some work on her. Completely striped down the bike top to bottom. New grease/bearings/etc. New cables but I kept the original housing since it was celeste. I had to replace the non-existent hoods with some cheap cane creeks (for now). I replaced the seat-post because it was only about 4 inches long. I also replaced the seat/handlebar wrap/pedals. I kept the original pedals, Valentino shifter group and the Nervar chainrings as well as the Normandy Luxe competition wheelset that came with it in case I ever want to convert the bike back to a 10 speed (which I might do later this summer for fun).

Here is a scan of the original 1973 catalog:

Mine is the 56cm version. Normally I ride a 54cm and this bike fits me well as the seat tube is 54 cm with a stand over of approximately 29 inches. It does have a bit longer of a reach than I would normally use but it's not really an issue with the old school 3T stem being relatively short.

Obligatory drive side garage shot:

Replaced the 52/42 rings with a NOS 46T Nervar chain ring & the original cottered OFMEGA bottom bracket.

Original Universal Brakes with new Kool Stop pads:

New Velomine Formula/M13 SS/FG wheelset (16T/16T Shimano freewheel) with Panaracer Pasela 700x25. The brakes fit the 700c rims surprisingly well:

Continued... (10 picture rule)

3ttt Rekord stem and a super narrow drops @ 37cm c2c! Brooks honey-brown leather all around. Really looks nice against the 1970's pastel celeste:

MKS Touring pedals with matching kickflips and deep cages for more casual shoes. Velo Orange elkhide sew-on shoe guards:

Some of the old parts that I cleaned for later use. I used an entire tube of Semi-chrome and more rags that I can remember on this restoration; my hands ached for weeks:

Thanks for viewing.

I thought it felt a bit weighted at the bottom.

I used to use Semi-chrome until I was introduced to this stuff years ago by a slot car racing enthusiast. The results are far superior, it's way easier/faster, way cheaper, and leaves an invisible silicone protective film.

Nice bike!
