Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Occasionally you see an NS oil train with a BNSF locomotive as part of the consist. Probably a run through arrangement for Bakken Crude from ND.

We get a lot more Black Horses rollin' through here than CSX motive power. More CPKC and FXE than CSX also.

I'll add that in the last several weeks whist driving to band practice I saw CSX railway maintenance that I hadn't seen in a long time. Another week there was a bunch of machines on the tracks by the intersection and they appeared to be working on the tracks themselves.

We used to see a lot of BNSF engines pulling crude oil tank cars. Now that the Dakota Access Pipeline is built, not very many. Still a fair amount of Ethanol for Fuel. We used to have 10 minute train delays. Very rare to go over 5 these days.

Replacing rail transport with a pipeline was a significant cost reduction and improved safety. Pipeline leaks are much less frequent than train derailments.

Oh, and it increased tax revenue for the State of North Dakota and for the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation which pumps about 20% of the oil extracted from the Bakken.

it was a good news bad news weekend

had a nice ride this am, took it easy but didn’t use too much assist on a nice short climb route. beautiful weather. had a couple beers at the baseball game the night before so heart rate was +5bpm.

carfax magically decided the car i’m selling was not actually stolen simply by a potential buyer inquiring on the phone with NCB about the status, and asking why carfax reported that NCB said stolen but NCB’s own vincheck did not.

saw my brother.

but i also managed to fall out of our garage “attic storage” (put my foot on the opening for the stair) and got banged up pretty good. very shocking mishap, took me a while to get back to normal. chest hurts like crazy especially when coughing or laughing, forearm is swollen and scraped and bulging out on one side, a foot hurts, etc. luckily my arms and chest sort of caught my fall, didn’t hit my head at all. i am so ready to be done moving.

not sure about riding for a little bit with the arm. we’ll see.

I will be on the lookout. They don't list a stop here, but to go from Minot to St. Paul they will probably be coming through Fargo. Steam engines at night are a sight to behold.

I've been considering relacing my Archetypes with silver hubs & all silver spokes and I'll keep that product in mind.

I can certainly NOT recommend building wheels with DT Spoke Freeze. It does it's job incredibly well, to the point of making future truing pretty much impossible.

I have been leaving my glasses in the drawer of late. My right eye is noticeably getting worse and likely the left is compensating. I can’t drive without them but almost everything else.

Got out for about 2.5 hours yesterday. It's tree tunnel season for a lot of the roads here, which makes this one particular road rather refreshing:

take care of the injuries. Your body doesn't need extra work. Can you take ibuprofen?
