....and right there is your problem....."in my experience".
If you had much experience you would know how stupid that statement is. Go out and get you an awesome sub 500 full squish bike. Just don't ever get on a good bike becuse you'll see how crappy your bike really is.

ENTRY level dual suspension will start at $1000. Like most all experienced MTB riders here, I started out on a hardtail and I guarantee it will make you a better rider with better handling skills. A $500 FS bike will be a boat anchor piece of crap and will not at all be worth upgrading when comes the time you want to move up. If your budget is $500 and you can't (or won't) handle the skill it takes and the learning curve that comes with it, yes, maybe you SHOULD go out and buy some POS FS bike and jump it till you break it, a $500 lesson learned. Better yet, go to WalMart and spend $150 on a FS bike- that way it won't be so painfull when you break it and have to *****can it!

Go on craigslist or ebay and look for a used fully.

Also, on the subject of the wal-mart bike for $500, has the same fork as my Trek, making me want to upgrade it now. >_>

Hard to keep up when you can hardly understand what the OP is trying to say.

heh. How would a dual sus single speed work anyhow? Wouldn't the travel change the chain length?

now, now Zumba. He could've been riding mountain bikes (or rather, mountain -style bikes) for 4 years. The question is, how does he define riding.

Not to mention when you buy that POS Wal-Mart bike your local bike ship will be over joyed to have to fix it and the parts will quickly exceed the cost of the bike. Maybe a miracle will happen and Wal-mart will stand behind their products.

This is no way to make friends.

I'm going to suggest that you get a $250 full suspension from your local Walmart. Why only $250, you ask? So you can save the other $250 for your ER copay when the bike shatters underneath you while riding your friend's "sweet jumps".

Geez, this has so been done before. Did you not even try the search button? I swear the answer to this comes up every week by guys in a similar situation.

And some appropriate riding gear.

Good luck
Take the good advice when you can get it
