The previous RRGB thread is a little "cluttered" and terribly confusing for anyone new. I would like to use this thread for simple and direct information.

The present status:

The price is $160 for a frameset (one frame, one fork, nothing else) in your choice of Orange, Black or Dark Green.

A $60 deposit buys you in.

Frames will be ordered after the end of the sale in October, it will take months after that to get your frame.

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but i the frame/fork disc compatable? It sort of looks like they are in the pictures, but I can't tell for sure.

Also, is it 520? The IRO website doesn't seem to mention the brand of steel they use.

I've been wanting a singlespeed... darn if this won't cut into my budget for a geared bike. I may not be able to resist though.

I just looked at the website and, too bad these are single speed. I would jump in if these could take gears. Anyway, they appear to be priced very well, even for SS. You guys will end up with a fine SS bicycle. I ride too many hills and, at my age I need to downshift.

Mines getting a Shimano Nexus 8-speed hub. Gears? Hell yeah! Derailers? Hell no!

Not disc compatible. And I don't know the kind of steel, sorry...

For the Nexus 8 speed you can also order the Alfine shifter as it's the same hub internally. It's a rapid fire style shifter that'll mount on any diameter bar.

rnhood, there are chain tensioners that have derailleur hangers.
revell makes some, but i'm sure other companies do as well.
so you could get a rob roy and still run gears,
especially since it can take a 130mm hub.

Most of the IRO frames (excluding the Jamie Roy and Angus) are double butted 4130 steel. The main triangle is butted but the stays are straight gauge. This is the same configuration as Reynolds 520 (which is really just "Kleenex" vs "tissue").

Just placed my order for a 56cm green to replace the 54cm blue that's just a touch too small for me. Plus, green is superior to blue.

This group buy frame is for my wife. It'll get a Nexus (or perhaps a black Alfine) hub and (no insults, please) an ebike conversion kit from werelectrified.com.

Well i've priced out my parts. Again, it's going to cost me ~$1000 total to build the bike the way i want (frame price included).



Fortunately i've already got a CX bike and a fixed gear/SS bike so i can let the frame sit on the side while i slowly collect parts for it. It'll be Bike Build 2008 for me.

Ya, I'll be tossing the fork in the parts pile right away but the one I saw to replace it illicited "sexy thoughts" at first glance. Any rational thought went right out the window and my gear ***** true nature took over. Whatever the case, I can't wait for the bike to come together.

@sfcrossrider, Pro post or WCS? I ran the numbers and the carbon Pro post is lighter/cheaper than the alu WCS. I've been running a 31.6mm carbon post on my Devinci for 2 years now, so I'm willing to risk carbon. Be sure to quote this post when I stab myself in the ass months from now.
