Right around freezing with a slight side/headwind. The only "problem" with it is that unfortunately it's about as good as it gets for the next eight or ten months. After 22 miles, the sun finally made an appearance for the last mile. By next week, it won't. A couple of robins were singing their little hearts out close to work, making it feel more like a March morning for a couple of minutes!

Waiting at a stoplight I was nearly taken out by a kid on an old Bianchi. He was sidewalk riding and blasted through the crosswalk and on to the next block's sidewalk.

53F ("feels like 49") w/ a 15mph headwind. jersey/arm and knee warmers/wool hat was enough after about 5min. 2/3 of my commute is gravel access road and the rabbits were everywhere today. and, of course, they just can't run away but run right next to me for about 50' after i flush them.

second day with my 300 lumen headlight, as i leave in pitch black, with the sky lightening just as i make it to work. Nature Boy is now set up with real fenders and a spare wheelset of snows at the ready. Bar Mitts to be affixed if needed. looking forward to the challenge of winter.

First wet ride since spring today! Left the house for my commute to work with scattered clouds and some sunshine, only to have the heavens pour down on me 1-2 miles into the commute. If the temperature was a bit cooler, it would have been nice since I was ready for it, but riding in 78F degree rain isn't fun since I was soaked in sweat because of the windbreaker.

it's pretty awesome. very responsive and predictable. i use it for everything now. i have a magic-geared singlespeed conversion Ridley Crossbow that gets no love unless i've got the Nature Boy apart. running 42:16 drivetrain. SSCX indeed.

Foggy and misty today... I had my first taste of dusk commuting, and I quite enjoyed it. I really need to splurge on some more lights though.

started off with a very nice, brisk commute then morning. about 3/4 the way through i went to shift up to my big ring and suddenly the shifter went slack. looks like i snapped my front derailleur cable. can't wait to go single speed....

Coldest morning so far, -1C "feels like -4" but my new gloves were up to the challenge. Wore my shorts under Nashbar fleece tights, wool socks (but toes were still cold), fleece mid-layer top with rainshell over top and mid-weight balaclava under helmet: sweated a bit in all of it (except for socks). Nice and dry, decent ride in.

Thursday is my hammer day, so I rocketed to work. 12.5miles in 41:15. It'll be interesting to see my what the training curves look like when I get home this evening.

It was a little brisk, but I didn't feel it after the first climb. Stars were vivid once again this morning.

Really digging the single speed experience!!

Colder again today, which was welcome. I'm going to have to find a visor or sunglasses or something, as the sun is low enough in the sky now to shine directly into my eyes.

Every driver was nice and gave me room except for a small dump truck. What is it with the trucks? Don't they realize their mirrors stick out extra far?

The day before yesterday was tough on the way in - I don't know if I was weak or if the sub-0 temps (Celsicus, not caveman degrees) made the grease in my IGH stiff. I believe it was a combination but primarily the latter. I felt better on the way home in the warmer weather.

Yesterday was quite a bit better/warmer in the AM. Averaged 20.00 kph, according to my new odometer won in a draw. I was watching the avg. most of the ride and it hit 20.00 as a neared the bike parking area at the bottom of a hill, so I popped the odo. off it's mount to save the round number . On the way home I did not reset the odo. and my avg. speed was 21.4 by the end of the ride.

Also, after I rode with my son to swimming and made a run to the grocery store, my new odometer has 201 km on it! THis is probably 1/100th of the actual mileage on my beat-up old bike (and probably 1/5th of the mileage I have done on it).

I almost hit a deer within the first mile of riding. Aren't they supposed to be wearing lights and/or reflectors??

-4C and cloudy this morning. I left the studs on in case the wet roads turned icy over night. The roads were mostly dry with only a few patches of ice so the studs weren't necessary. But it did give me a reminder of the kind of rolling resistance I'll have to deal with on the best of days during the winter.

It was dark by the time I got home last night, almost 7:30. I turned on the Blackburn Flea on my helmet for the last bit. I love my generator hub powered headlight, but I look other places sometimes, too.

I haven't figured out my plan for tomorrow yet (I drove today to go running after work.); if it's raining in the morning, I can put in my contact lenses and ride, but if it's still dry I would need glasses for the dusty gravel part of my ride. Transition days are always interesting.

Yeah, it's great. Pick the right gear, and it won't slow you down (much), and lets you focus on the ride.

Meanwhile, I've had a bunch of appointments this week, so I haven't been able to ride. Hopefully, tomorrow.

limping to the bike store this afternoon i learned that the cable had in fact NOT broken. the derailleur had!

It was definitely chilly this morning so I put on my jacket. What I've been noticing on my commute is that the car traffic has increased on my route in Brooklyn. The Barclays Center has just opened, (where the Brooklyn Nets NBA team is to play) and I think the construction isn't quite finished on the surrounding streets, sending the traffic onto my route.

It was dusk coming home so I had my lights on, and 5 people asked me where I got mine. It is an inexpensive flashlight, but it puts out more light than anything else I see, something like 500-600 lumens. When it's on strobe, everybody jumps out of my way, even other cyclists. I've been arguing the case for these lights on the Electronics Forum as they are inexpensive, put out a lot of light, and have easily replaceable rechargeable batteries. Cars stop to let me go by, which is the best argument for them. I can understand the argument for more light, but lumens to lumens, these can't be beat.

Good commutes this week, glad I got back into it. It seems a bit darker lately when I leave, may need to step it up from my front combo of a PB Blaze on the helmet and the bars and add my Minewt USB headlight.

My first cold weather commute this week, low 40's. I survived and actually enjoyed most of the rides. All comfy except fingers and toes. I hope to get the clothes right pretty soon!
