Roberts Cycles Open Day (Charles Roberts Memorial Day).
Last Sunday was the Roberts Cycles Open Day in sunny East Sussex, 70+ Roberts owners and enthusiasts in attendance, bbq, refreshments, live jazz trio and of course many fine bicycles and their friendly owners.
Geoff Roberts was on hand to discuss frame-building, frame-building courses and restorations.
Also in attendance: Pip Jenkins, Glen Mitchell (1980 Olympic Pursuit) and Andy Palmer.

Geoff has recently built a steel framed machine for Pip Jenkins who recently rode in the RTTA championships (463 miles in 24 hrs).
We hope to make this an annual event in this lovely part of East Sussex.

Appreciate your comments. Roberts are a legend among English framebuilders since the 1960s when Charles Benjamin Roberts left Holdsworth (he was foreman) and started his own business. His son Geoff has been building since the age of 14 (as well as being a professional rider).
Geoff has recently built a steel framed machine for Pip Jenkins who recently rode in the RTTA championships (463 miles in 24 hrs).
We hope to make this an annual event in this lovely part of East Sussex.

Huge fan of the Brits long standing framebuilding tradition though I currently only have a Holdsworth, a badly bent Bob Jackson tandem frame and 8 Raleigh's, 5 Pro's, 1 Super tourer and a couple of Grand Prix's, 4 are frame only.
Still need a Bob Jackson, Roberts, Mercian, Jack Taylor, Cooper, Whitcomb, Woodrup, etc., etc

You're welcome, most excellent. Well aware of Roberts in general and what is stated her that I have seen. Usually drill right down when something about them comes up.

Charles (Charlie) Roberts was foreman in Holdsworth's frame building shop before he left to start Roberts. Your still need list is an interesting one - especially Ron Cooper and Jack Taylor. But you should have a Roberts - perhaps a new one from Geoff ?
This bicycle - above - should whet your appetite, built by Geoff Roberts for Glen Mitchell's ride in the 1980 Moscow Olympics - this ride is soooo very light, aero tubes by Roberts.

Yes, really spitballin on the list, good specimens in my size 62 - 64 minimum at the right price would be the real criteria, no custom in my future for now.
I know Raleigh is a one foot in, one foot out of this league but they helped quite a bit overall with much of it.
I think it is amazing they did what they did all the while cranking out record numbers of bikes good, bad and ugly, most of which easily went the distance despite crappy brazing et all.
I love the Pro's, what can I say, I was a bike boom brat, Pro's, Paramount's and PX10's, love em to death.
