Well, so far it can't tell the difference between fingers and food.

Pretty wicked claws... and no declawing here.

We went quickly from not being able to look at it, to coming when I call, sitting on the lap, lots of purring, etc.

Plumping up quickly!!!

I'm hoping short or mid-length hair. I don't think I could take a Persian. It would end as quite a tortoise.

At most, that's a medium hair kitten. I've fostered a lot in the past 16 years. Train her to deal with nail clipping young (and if you ever plan on bathing her, start now) and you're good. For the finger biting, flick her in the nose when she bnips. You don't want to deal with anything beyond that my 2yo kitten is good with me, husband, and one of the kids due to this--the other just won't reprimand and it drives me nuts.
At this age, yelling "Yow!" every time she bites will probably be a good deterrent.

Cat nails are important for their climbing ability, and potentially escaping predators.

I'd rather teach the cat to not kneed sensitive spots. And, of course, avoid attacking furniture.

I hadn't thought about bathing. Cats do a lot of self-grooming.

Cats don't normally need baths, but they sometimes let the self-grooming go when they're ill, so getting them used to an occasional bath seems like a good idea to me.

Yes. It works if you bathe them when they're young. We had a kitten named Booger, and he was very dirty. My kids bathed him. As an adult, he was totally cool with getting wet. Sometimes, I would pour water on him just for fun, while he was lying down, and he just stayed still, and then he would lick the water off. He would go out into the rain and get soaked, too.

It's not just that cats need their claws. To declaw them, the surgeon removes the first knuckle of each toe. It's pretty serious mutilation. Some states have now outlawed the practice.

Sorry, I automatically assume that people keep their cats indoors. Here we have predators who will easily have a feline for a meal, with or without claws.

Yes. The cars here, too, are ruthless. Also, we have coyotes and ticks that carry Lyme Disease.

You're about an hour from me. I'm in NH on the Mass border. Thankfully, the ticks aren't as bad now as they were earlier in the year.

^ Needs to be taken with some of that Hitchcock on the screen. Maybe a bird pecking out some lady's head or the Lifeboat crew strangling the captain.

Nice setup.

Bozaks a fave o' mine as well.

Fairly rare here in California where I am located due to the shipping cost from MA.

Local stereo store manager told me salespersons were instructed to try and switch customers who wanted them because the shipping cost cut into the store's end...

our 2 adult kids moved out (again) & so our cats are confused again. there's been a little cat-box misbehavior (as in the past). I think they'll be fine but I like them & want to keep them distracted & happy. my usual routine is to spruce up their litter box (but I already did that this summer), be more generous with catnip, add additional scratch boxes & sleep pads around the house

any other ideas?

My kid got married on Friday. There was a lot of partying the whole weekend, and we had a miscommunication. We went to the happy couple's home, bringing the dog back after her staying the weekend, thinking they would have us over while we brought leftovers for dinner, but they weren't home. We spent dinner time with the dog and two cats. One cat, named Chicken, is a holy terror and attacks the dog, the other cat, and all humans. The dog walkers, when they drop the dog off after walks, writes about how horrible this cat is. We wonder if she'd be nicer if we didn't call her Chicken. So we started calling her Bonita (Spanish for "pretty"), and she started getting nice. The other cat is the one I found a couple of years on the river path. They have named him Guapo (Spanish for "handsome"), and he's a nice cat who gets along very well with the dog.

We have a cat that terrorizes the other two cats. Perhaps she doesn't like being called Samie?

My cat keeps getting new names. His official name from the shelter is Logan, but for a while we called him Buddy and now that's transitioned to Kitty, but it's getting replaced by a new moniker: "The Meowmeow" or Mawmaw for short.

I'm not sure what will happen next. Clearly, you have to go with the flow when it comes to names for cats. It reminds me of this comic:
