Old plastic coated spokes???
I came across an old set of Clincher wheels, with no memory of how I came by them. Maillard "sealed mechanism" (bearings) hubs. The rear is 120 OLD so I'm thinking old. Black alloy rims, peeled rectangular labels and straight gauge chromed spokes in rough shape, but not rusted. Here's the weird part... They seem to have a clear plastic coating on each individual spoke. (In other words, the coating was not applied after the wheel was built.) Anyone know about this? It's peeling and looks awful, not sure if the wheels can be "saved". Shame, because they're true, and brake tracks look unused, though there may be some oxidation.
Pic coming.
