I've been using the same Timbuk2 Commute Messenger Bag for over 15 years now. It is well worn and badly needs replacement.

It fits by back/body perfectly and I can reach what I need when I am riding or getting on/off bike.

I want bright panel colors and/or large reflective area.

The two external side water bottle pockets are essential. I put road dirty bottles in them when I get off bike and walk into work. Or a bluetooth speaker when I only have one bottle.

I don't need the laptop sleeve as I can use a separate one which is more flexible anyway.

Unfortunately Timbuk2 doesn't offer this type of bag anymore. The external water bottle pockets are now internal which makes no sense as why would one want to open up bag in the rain to put a dirty water bottle inside against clean clothing.

Where should I look for a replacement? Below are picture of my bag today

I think with 15 years and that kind of wear, I would have to go back with Timbuk2.

Yes it has held up well for over 88k miles in intense sun and heat and dozens of rainstorms. I've put it thru the washer I think three times and hung on line to dry. It is due for another washing, but I don't know if it can handle another one without totally falling apart.

For me the side pockets are essential. I am not sure if lacking them is a deal breaker, but every day I head into work and put water bottles or speaker in them and often stash random non valuable stuff in them during the ride. I just can't see myself walking 1/4mi into work jugging two water bottles and a helmet while trying to put by badge on.

Unfortunately Timbuk2 no longer makes bags with side pockets and while they have custom build options have told me that is not an option for custom build any more. Taking a look at their product line and marketing it seems they are more focused on style than function than they were decades ago.

Wow, that is even older than my bag!

Ya know, the water-bottle pockets are still there, but now on the inside. Works for me.
There is the "napoleon" pocket on Timbuk2 for items you want access to without unclipping the large flap.

The last thing I want to do with wet and dirty water bottles is put them inside my bag with my clean clothing, etc. Especially when raining opening bag and letting rain in. Today my water bottle was muddy from road spray. Do I carry wipes to clean my bottles before putting in bag, or put them in a plastic bag first? Also my current bag wouldn't fit two bottles inside along with my other stuff so I'd need a larger size.

How about a Chrome Citizen? Pretty sure it has outside bottle pockets. They’re tough as nails to boot
