Using race wheel on trainer

I have two sets of wheels, one for racing and one for training. The problem is that my rear training wheel is being used every day on my daily training bike. So when I go to ride the trainer, I don't want my every-day tire to get chewed up, so I've been using my racing wheel with the trainer tire when I'm riding indoors.

My question is whether using my racing wheel on the trainer is a bad idea, causing unnecessary stress and harm to the wheel? Maybe I should get a really cheap third rear wheel to run on the trainer?

Shouldn't be a problem. I would use some cheap metalic skewer thought.
What kind of wheel is it?

It's a DT Swiss RR 1.1. rim with Speedcific hubs (Mike Garcia special)

Maybe not the nicest race wheel out there, but it is a nice wheel. Just can't afford too much more.

The wheel should be fine but you can kiss that tire goodbye. If you ride the trainer a bunch get one of those yellow Continental trainer tires. I've had mine for two seasons.

On a trainer the wheel is not holding your weight and getting slammed into potholes.

IOW, it isn't doing anything.

Using a wheel on the trainer tends to chew up hubs, as you're placing undue stress on the bearings in the form of pressure and heat.

I'd avoid using the good wheel...
