This concerns the dynamo hub Luxos U light (70 Lux).

The light is continually cycling through the light patterns, and the handlebar button as well as the button on back of the light casing do nothing to change it. This occurs while riding, and when stopped, as the capacitor holds a charge for quite a while.

I tried plugging my smartphone into the USB charger, which is connected to the handlebar button. It didn't start charging the phone, so perhaps the button is the culprit.

It did rain heavily on the way home yesterday, so maybe water got into the button assembly.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I'd contact the seller to ask about this. If your water in the switch theory isn't right, there's something wrong with the light and you need to warranty it.

Are you sure it's wired correctly at the back of the light? No shorts or loose connections? I had one of my connector tabs partially break off and before it finally lost it's connection I had a few problems with it like you mention. I disassembled it and soldered the wire directly to the remaining post and added a plug further down the wire.

To test to see if it's a water in the button/usb you could just unplug the button entirely and see if the headlight functions normally.

the Luxos U was plagued by water intrusion issues through the first couple of iterations. How old is this light?

I have heard that BuM is unapologetic if the light is out of warranty. If it passed through the hands of Peter White at some point, he may be able to help you.

Thanks for the suggestions. The handlebar push button was apparently corrupted by the rain/moisture. After a weekend to dry out, the headlamp, and taillight all worked fine this morning. Riding in the rain is something I try not to worry about, so perhaps I can craft a rain barrier to put over it the next time I'm out in it.

Or get a simpler headlight for daily use when you can always recharge things at work.

is it the version that has the external button attached with a connector? Dielectric grease always seemed like a good idea on that connection

No, it's directly connected into the unit. Too bad.

It is running great now that it is not raining for a few days. But, I also use a 360 lumen rechargeable light for a bright and gently blinking headlamp.

Well, the blinking problem is back, and the weather is dry. Weird
Here is a 29-second video I took this morning:
I may have to put on the original dynamo headlamp if this problem cannot be fixed.

If I understand your question correctly, it is a dynamo light working off the hub dynamo.

Today I went out and noted that it was not blinking. I spun the front wheel until there was enough electricity to power the light. It went into blink mode right away. I'll check the connections again this week.

I was just curious, because in your video there was no wheel spinning. It's too bad you are having all this trouble, I really liked my luxos back when i was using it.

Do you have a tail light hooked up to it?

This is an e-bike, no? Are you sure a hub dynamo is driving the light? If so, how is it that the light is on with the wheel not spinning? Which wheel has the motor in it?

My Edelux blinks when first taking off after having sat long enough for any residual power to be used up i.e. the stand light is out.

Soon as the bike is moving more than a crawl, it stops blinking and the light becomes a steady beam.

This happens only when the bike has been still for a long period of time and I assume it takes a few seconds for the internal capacitor to fill.

Yes, there is a taillight connected to it, and it works as it is supposee to.

Modern dynamo lights have capacitors which keep the lights on for a few minutes after the dynamo stops spinning.

I contacted the mothership in Bamberg, Germany. The B&M person looked at the video, and at photos I sent. He proclaimed that there was no solution but to replace it. He wrote that I need to contact the shop where I bought it and check on warranty possibilities.

Today, I stopped at the shop and they told me that the warranty is for two years, so I should be getting a replacement unit, or something equivalent. I'll drop off the bike this week.

Luxos has a small internal battery instead of a capacitor.

Yes, that actually makes sense based on how long the light stays on after the dynamo stops. It takes hours for the *@!&*#%$@ blinking to stop. Thanks.

So does the blinking continue when the front wheel is spinning? I have to admit, I'm very conservative when it comes to my lights, I'm happily using an IQ-X, which is much simpler than the Luxos. I keep thinking I should do something with the luxos, but it's sitting in my tool chest for now

The B&M Luxos light is heading to the USA distributor who will inspect it and then repair or replace it. A couple of weeks. I could pick up the bike, but I'll use one of the others for commuting this week.

After a month, the B&M light is back and repaired to like new. Or maybe it is new. Peter White was not clear. Anyway, it was all covered under warranty and the 70/90 Lux light is now back in business.

Now, to figure out where to get the small metal tab replacement for the rear-light wire. It broke today, but that can't be related to the repair work. The small clip is pretty tender, and apparently somewhat brittle.

The back light now works as it should. The shop gave me the connector plugs which crimped well. One bonus of sorts is now when I put the front light to "high" (90 LUX) beam, the rear light also gets brighter.

That's weird. Why do you think that happens?

The only thing that comes to mind is that the LUXOS apparently has to have the back wires attached in the "correct" polarity to the back light. I'll change them and see if that makes a difference.

My Luxos recently developed the same problem after the bike was left out in an unexpected deluge. The light is three years old and out of warranty, so I guess I am out of luck.
