Last week I passed someone that was using aero bars while I was on the hoods, it was a windy day as well. I was doing well north of 18 mph! How can people be so slow on aero bars in the wind?

I know it's bad form to make such judgments, and I don't know what else is going on for them that day, but sometimes when I see such a mismatch between high-end equipment and rider performance, I think somewhere there is a bike salesman laughing his butt off.

I think you nailed it. Then again, look at Craigslist and see all of the bikes that are advertised with very few miles on them.

The strange thing about this person, they had an old triathlon number on their helmet. I'm not the picture of health, so I found it very odd that I would be passing them.

Could be many reasons I have a top of the line bmc and before I broke my neck last year was really fast on it now when I take it out I get that look from some riders. Like why am I going so slow on sice a nice bike even the old ladies pass me now but little by little it's coming back. Point is there could be many reasons they are going so slow maybe out on recovery ride or they were just hammering for a few hours and are in slow ride rythem

I think I was confessing to having a jerky thought--it's not a dirty look I'd give someone or something I'd ever say to them precisely because of your type of situation and the kind of situations you're describing (which I did kind of cover in my disclaimer).

In the meantime, and I mean this quite sincerely, yay for you! Keep 'em flying at whatever pace you can manage, and may your recovery be full and fast, with the wind at your back.

And if I ever did give you such a look, feel free to tell me to eff off. I'd deserve it.

I once passed three riders in full kit, "pacelining," hey, they were in a line, on my 1984 Ross Mt. Rainier mountain bike, with bull moose bars, and loaded panniers. I must be a champion.

What a troll post, sincerely entertaining.

I was on a bike path the other day pushing around 400 watts and passed some guy who was jogging, by the look on his face, he was clearly in agony, but I passed him like he was standing still. Can I get a medal?

Also OP, do you race? What category are you? can you post any rides you've put on strava with speed+power meter data, so we can gaze in awe at your 5.0+ watt/kg ftp (if it's anything less, I'll laugh)?

Only if there were two of him, and they both looked like Lance.
