Great Lakes Randonneurs
Registration is now open for all Great Lakes Randonnueurs (GLR) events. We have 18 new routes this year with most starting in northern Illinois. We are looking to expand our ridership to more people in the Chicago area.
Our feature event this year is the Million Meters 2: The Dark Chocolate Cow. This 1000K features 3 days of great rides heading for Wausau, the Dells of the Eau Claire River, Stevens Point, the most famous landmarks of Door County, High Cliff State Park, Rawley Point Lighthouse and the shores of Lake Michigan. July 12-16.
Like the idea of a trip in upper Door County, but not up for 1000k? Try the Upper Door Tour 300k, a slightly different loop, but mainly the same route as Day 2 of the 1000k. See Death's Door, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Bailey's Harbor, Peninsula State Park and other totally awesome sights. We will also have the Chocolate Chicken 120k and the High Cliff 110k. The Chocolate Chicken is an abbreviated trip through Upper Door County. The High Cliff takes you south to High Cliff State Park on the Fox River Trail and back up. Laid back and relaxed!

Very much looking forward to the GLR 600k on June 15. Single loop with 20k feet of climbing in some of the best areas of the Midwest (Galena, Bluemounds, New Glarus).
This looks to be a big-time ride and will be my first major brevet. Excited to be part of a new crop of young randonneurs coming on-line looking for the next challenge/adventure beyond racing. Lots of companies catering to this type of long-distance cycling and am hoping to see some other rippers out there.

@big_cat - so glad you will be tackling the 600K!!! Not sure if I will get a chance to meet you. At the moment, I'm scheduled to get the 400K going that same day out of Woodstock.

thanks @GadgetGirlIL! That 600k will be the marquee event of my randonneuring year. already having trouble thinking about anything else! appreciate what you and the other volunteers do for the scene. looking forward to getting into it.

That would be a lot on back-to-back weekends. I'm planning to attempt the Ears are Bleeding 600k straight through if you are up for a real challenge in June.

Good to know @kingston. I’m not running dyno, but assuming I get my lighting squared away I think the adreneline would set me up to go through Sunday AM, especially if you will be pushing on. Either way, nice that there will be a bag drop option in Mount Horeb.

Ixon IQ Premium will run all night on high with 2 sets of batteries or 1 set if you switch to low most of the time. I also recommend a fork crown mount for the headlight and a Secula for your seat stay. If you order from one of the German retailers you'll have the best battery powered randonneuring lighting set-up money can buy for under a hundred bucks.
I won't need to send a drop bag if I'm riding through, but it's definitely a nice option for those planning to sleep in Mt. Horeb.
