If I do the hilly medium route, probably ride the granny gear Raleigh.

A couple things have to come together, but I'm planning on being there for my first l'Eroica. Probably doing the long ride because this is for my 60th birthday in April and it needs to be epic.
I don't know any of you guys except Biking Shearer sort of... and I don't get to spend much time with the short riders I guess.

Ok add me to the list, signed up this morning.
If I ride it will be the 35 mile route with my Takahashi Sannow Sport (the back surgery restoration bike). The "if" is as I will be between 4-5 months post L5 back surgery so won't know till I get there as to when I will be released to ride and more importantly be able to pick up and move the weight of a 25lb bike. So good thoughts all.
Back up will include a bike for the Concours even I I can't ride. See you all next spring.
Edited for the obvious question: What's a Takahashi Sannow Sport? Mid-1976 date of consruction, 21.5 lbs. without pedals, First Generation Shimano Dura Ace (black) gruppo, lovely ride with 28mm tires, likely switch to 32mm if I can ride Eroica.

I'm in a quandry. Want to ride my Bertoni but it's been updated with an 8 speed Shimano 105 groupo. Downtube shifters but the gray finish is a 1990's giveaway. My son has my Torrelli with Campi NR but he is pretty far away. That puts me on the Panasonic DX 4000 which makes the 1987 cut off. Kinda harsh ride, and barely appropriate.

I'll be back again for my 4th EC. Planning to ride the Scalatore route but wondering how the climbs and descent into Cambria will feel towards the end of the ride after all the miles.

My original 72 Super Speciale from high school as ridden Eroica 2017
OK, I've officially registered and finalizing Cambria accommodations for my family and BIL/SIL who will be coming from Portland, OR. I've signed up for the 75 mile route with a bit of trepidation but figure I've got 5 more months to train for the climbs. Looking forward to this event and will spend the week (Thur-Thur) in Cambria and coast area, maybe take an inland day trip or two.
Let's keep the registrations and travel ideas coming, plus letting us know what you'll be riding. For now, I'll probably ride my brown 72 Italvega Super Speciale, but I've started working on a later 74 mist green Italvega Super Speciale or possibly a Superlight if I can get the right setup.

This is the ride i bought when i first heard about this ride. Pedals, brake levers, and wider range RD in the mail. need freewheel, and more appropriate saddle, and possible leather shoes and wool jersey to make it work. Would love to find a jersey with Ciocc embroidered on it, or a period correct version of the Polish olympic team from 1980 since they rode this brand to a silver that year.

I was in Gaiole in the late 70s, rode in a "festa" tour for dilletanti and won a bottle of Chianti as the rider who came from farthest away. That got drunk b
ut I can wear the G S Gaioli flocked jersey from the ride! Eroica seems to be a Tuscan phenomenon well routed in the past

I'm doing this for the first time and am just starting to collect parts for a "new" build based around a Guerciotti Record frame. Here's my question about gearing -- it seems contradictory to me that that you have this "vintage" bike ride on a course that requires mortal riders to gear their bikes almost to the point of a mountain bike. I've seen Eroica bikes equipped with mountain bike derailleurs and 32 cog cassettes mounted to modern freehubs and 36 inner chainrings. This seems odd to me. I'm in my early 50's and fit and I plan to run Campy Super Record all around, which likely means 52/42 with a 14-28 freewheel. I'm prepared to do a little walking if needed, but the purist in me wants to avoid going outside the spirit of the event.
Am I going about this wrong?

Heres my 78 Merz touring with 52.42,36 up front and 14-3? out back, pretty much just as it was built that I rode in 2017.
And a 74 that was his and has been upgraded with more modern but was originally built very similar to the 78.
