don't mind carrying extra stuff for emergencies, but it's gotten out of hand. now that spring is here I'm gonna double check all that stuff to see what I have too many extras of. I know I have 5 Co2 cartridges in there, so I can cut that down to 3. this past Fall? I found 3 chain tools!

rumrunn, I feel your pain. I look at the stuff in my bag and wonder" what if I needed it." And it all ends up being tossed back in. I wish I had some words of wisdom...but sadly, I don't.

I'll bet a good number of BF member take more in the way of tools and "emergency items" on 30 mile round trip rides from their front doors than I take on a two week trip in the Mountains of Montana.

And this thread would not be complete without:

When I bought a seat bag, I intentionally got a smaller size knowing that I would fill it, regardless of what I actually needed or wanted to carry. If there is extra space, it's easy to say, "Someday I might need that (insert useless spare part or tool here)".

Lol 5 CO2s are ridiculous I'll call you out on that. I need to buy a trunk bag/rack, but my Jand bag is the perfect size for my "brevets" and such. I'll carry a tube, levers and a pump. I can easily squeeze in a bit of food and an extra upper for these spring days when it's 30's in the morning and 60's by the afternoon.

I do need to buy a new patch kit, it's small enough to be worth packing just in case.

When I head to Montana and Idaho for two weeks this June I will bring the following to address on the road SNAFUs:

3 tubes (I'll be doing a fair amount of unpaved road riding)
Tire levers
Road Morph G pump
Patch kit
P to S valve adaptor
Spoke wrench
Multitool with hex wrenches and a few screw drivers

If I use any of that other than the pump to keep the tires inflated and the multitool to install and remove the racks and adjust the seat post and bars due to boxing and shipping it will be an oddity.

& this chuckle is from October before an all-day, 40+ mile, remote, solo, gravel ride

Those items , CO2 cartridges and chain tools, are heavy and naturally sink to the bottom.

If you need 5 CO2 cartridges, maybe you should just bring a pump.

Ya. My bike bag becomes the items one would find on top of the bench. 3 phillips head, 4 screw drivers, 3 patch kits with hard glue, a tube that looks like a coiled rattlesnake, almost gone roll of duct tape. 2 locks. Ya. Kinda stupid on my part from time to time.

before my ride yesterday, in desperation, I dumped the trunk onto my car driver's seat. then took what I deemed useful & threw it into my bag, then added the new stuff for the ride, aka: wallet, sandwich, snack. was left with a giant pile that I put in a paper grocery bag (to be sorted later)

Rumrunn6, I don't see what the problem is. Everything fits inside dosin't it. Only when you have stuff dangling on the outside bouncing off the spokes is there cause for concern.
