Bottom bracket bb30/pf30 different than bb30?

My bike has a bb30 x 68mm length shell. I removed a sram red bb30 crankset to install a new compact crankset. This new crankset says bb30/pf30 right on it. But there is an inch of side to side clearance on the axel.
Did I buy the wrong crankset? What is the correct designation for what I am looking for?
Is there a way to use this crankset that will work reliably without looking like cobbled garbage?

Is the new crank also from Sram ?

The first BB30 road cranks by Sram had short spindles that are only compatible with 68mm shells.

Sram lengthened the spindle on their newer cranks from Force22 and S952 and others onwards. So they would be more compatible with a wider range of frames that were adopting wider shells (BBRight,BB386 etc). But they still labeled them BB30/PF30 same as before. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8037/...4e510a18_o.jpg

Sram also then began selling BB386EVO cranks which are essentially the same as above. As BB386EVO is the most cross compatible bb. It can be made to work with nearly all frames.

To use your cranks in a 68mm shell. You need to use the spacer set. Which consists of a Sram 13mm spacer on the drive side. The Sram preload adjuster (to remove slack) plus a 5mm spacer (+ more shims if needed) on the non drive side. And bearing covers over the bearings.

Yes it's a quarq crankset, supposed to be force level. Although it weighs more like Red.
Ok, that's what I was thinking was going to happen, as I couldn't find a standard bb30 only option.
how well does this work? are there any inherant issues, noisy, or anything I should look out for?

Got it back from the shop today. Exactly as you described. And as I feared....a little cobbled. Oh well, long as it works.

Thanks for the help.

Where is that chart from? That would have saved me a heart attack last Sunday when I thought I bought the wrong crank. Lol. Saving it anyways , thanks for posting it.

I'd think hanging a crank spindle 13mm out from the bearing isn't a lever arm that will promote bearing longevity.

Got the opportunity to ride the bike outside of all places yesterday, 27 miles. Works great. Love the new electronic shifting. The new crank works well. Love the new gearing.50/34 with 32-11
