What else do you guys do? I've been a member of BF for a couple of years now and being here you all know that I like to ride. I do other stuff too and was wondering about you.

As for me, here are two other things that I puts around with (aside from family and work). I brew my own beer and it tastes extra good after a ride (enjoying one now as a matter of fact). I also refurbish antique radios. Pictured below a very nice pint of something called Lupulus Nubius Black IPA - 8 lbs of malt extract and 1 pound of cracked toasted wheat with 6oz of hops. Good but could use more hops next time. The others are a 1961 Motorola that I kept hidden at work because my wife thought I was buying too many radios. She saw it when I brought her to work one day, I forgot to hide it (busted). The other is the front and back of a 1929 American Bosh that just underwent a full electrical reconditioning. After all these years it still sounds great. It now sits in my daughters room awaiting cabinet restoration.

So, how about it, what else get you going...?

I have a clock radio from the 1940’s that just makes a low hum when turned on. But I keep it because it looks so cool. Someday I will figure tubes out and fix it.

I used to collect and shoot photos with old cameras, until color film became more expensive and less convenient to process. (Wal-Mart used to develop 35mm color film on site for $2.75, no prints, I'd scan at home. Black and white film is still inexpensive to buy and develop at home, but time consuming to develop and scan.

At one point a few years ago I was slitting 35mm bw film into rolls of 16mm and repacking old 110 cartridges (including backing paper) to shoot with old 110 cameras. But my favorites were non-battery dependent 35mm SLRs and rangefinders from the 1950s and 1960s.

It got to where I could estimate the exposure without a meter, and determine the distance using the paralax of my own two eyes and a simple business card sized guide.

I like old manual focus portrait lenses with big apertures for thin "selective focus" which gently blurs all but the important point of focus.

My new cellphone uses multiple lenses to create an instantaneous depth-map to allow for selective focus after the photo is taken, and I have an app that converts photos to bw with the option to emulate film types and color filter types with adjustments. Red to deepen skies, orange to lighten skin tones, green to lighten trees, yellow for a sharper look.

Digital is so precise, it lacks a certain "humaness".

Back before Computer Aided Design (CAD) photographic lenses were "eyeballed", you know, which looks better, this, or that? The same for film stock, the same for audio speakers, microphones, car handling, bike handling, etc.

We tend to respect devices for their accuracy, but we love them for their faults.

I go rock climbing. Between a couple kids and a bum toe that's getting better and better, cycling made more sense for the last few years.

I really am typically way more into climbing than cycling.

Flyfish. There are very few pictures of me fishing because I usually go alone. I'm not a huge fan of river fishing. I really like hiking to a high country lake and enjoying the solitude and the lack of oxygen




It is really rare to find pictures of me with fish on the line.


This one may not be large but the lake it is in is only about 5' deep at its deepest.



Both of these lakes are above 11,500 feet which is above timberline here in Colorado.

A 110 was my first camera when i was a kid. I had no idea cutting film in this way was even a thing. I still have a roll of Tri-X that I have been saving since 1988. When i did my own development I thought i would try an experiment to see how an old roll of film would turn out. Since then I have lost interest but I still have the film.

I have fly fished once on the ocean. My sister runs a fishing business in Loreto Mexico. Dorado was in season at the month we went (August). Very fun but very tiring. Fish so plentiful It became so easy to catch that we could target one particular fish one after the other.

Before the gyms in Manhattan closed I was a cross-fit junkie. In the gym every night for class. I am home by 430 pm so I can either ride or go to gym class. Now all riding around the Central Park loop.

I also date much younger women 😂

Besides cycling I tinker with electronics and ham radio, I've had my radio license for 43 years. Also do some target shooting. Up until this spring I was in a small group at the local range that would compete weekly, winner earning bragging rights until the next match. As time and interest prevail, I'll breakout some of my camera gear or telescopes. Still enjoy a good historical non-fiction book on occasion.

Well, I also run and swim a lot. I was doing several tris per season until a couple years ago. A knee injury, and hip replacement really set me back with regard to running. But I’m swimming and cycling more.

I periodically kayak. I liken my dozen times or so a year that I do kayak to how most non cyclists may ride their bike at most a dozen times a year.
