I have not ridden Skyline yet. Missed a golden opportunity when they closed the park to all motor vehicle traffic due to COVID. I really want to do it, but a bit uneasy about the lack of a bike lane and the visitors taking in the views instead of watching the road.

Understand! I’ve never had any issues riding Skyline Dr or the BRP, but I’m accustomed to riding in “traffic”. I don’t recall there being very much traffic in that area anyway. I do remember some nice views though. My brother and I rode Skyline end to end in May 2015. 110 miles and 11,000’ of climbing on the first of 7 days of riding to Cherokee. Probably would have been smarter to do it in two days!

Did 19 miles on the W&OD this morning. From Ashburn to Leesburg. Beautiful day. The temp was about 80F, but the breeze under the trees covering the trail was cool. Almost chilly. Major fun.

Almost home....one more tough climb left after a strenuous 41 mile, hilly ride. I am absolutely loving the Bianchi - I really can’t find any Achilles heel. It looks like ultrarider7 and I are riding the same bike, LOL! Don’t you just love it when you overspend on a bike and are still impressed? That’s DoubleTop Mtn to the left, and Skyline way in the back.

Went out today against the wind https://www.strava.com/activities/3680331647 13.5 miles with an open wound in the groin area (saddle sore caused by ingrown hairs).

Felt good, I can feel my lungs still as I was at that wall where the body is screaming for oxygen.

I was all dressed and headed out the door at 5:45 am to beat the NC summer heat. The phone rang and it was our daughter. She started In labor so we headed over and picked up her two kids while she did a home birth. She gave birth to our 4th grandchild (a girl) around 4:30 in the afternoon. No riding but well rewarded just the same!

23.5 mi with 1924 elevation. The only ride I can take starting from my house, it includes a 600 ft incline, and then again coming back if I don't turn back at the top. At 69 it gets a little harder and less fun each year. Think I'll move to the flats :/

Enjoyed my first 40 mile ride today. The trail is 24 miles long and I'm working up to riding the entire thing so there and back plus the ride to/from home will be my first 50 mile ride , hopefully soon. Have a great day everyone!

Because of the current virus situation and me staying away from my usual (but now busy) MUP and trails and just riding through my city, I've climbed half of what I've climbed the whole of last year, in one month after this morning's ride. Always hated climbing but this challenge makes me feel good after each ride.

33.5 miles in 93 heat index on the road with my Diverge gravel bike for a change. Was really muggy but I feel good.

I went with the Foundation ENVE 45 Wheels. Initially I was going to go with the 65s, but if I bring the Bianchi to FL, the high winds will blow the bike around like a fan. I’m not a small guy, but it’s amazing what high crosswinds do to the Domane, which runs Aeolus Comp 5s.

My impression is they are a fantastic choice, the ride quality (which includes 28mm Vittoria tubeless tires) on rough surfaces is unmatched by any of my other bikes. I’m migrating away from tubes as I’m sick of far too many flats....

I went for a short 35 miler after walking 18 holes this morning. Within the first mile after leaving the house heard a truck blowing it’s horn behind me while I was stopped for a light. I could see the truck in my rear view mirror and decided to roll forward. Glad I did, I couldn’t tell if the dump truck was in a hurry or had lost some braking power. About 10-15 seconds later a highway patrolman pulled in after him.

You might check these folks out. I’ve bought at least 5-6 sets of wheels from them and they’ve all been great. One set has about 35,000 miles and all I’ve had to do was replace a set of bearings. Usually I can get a set I’m needing at under $600 shipped to my house. I think the last set of clinchers was 1330 grams for a 35 mm deep rim. Not sure how long it takes to get a set these days but before COVID it was about 2-3 weeks.

I have 35’s on my R3 disc Bike and the wind moves that bike around more than my others. I’m wondering if the brake disc is catching a good bit of the cross winds??? That’s the only difference from my R3 rim brake bike.

Interesting theory, and I believe possible. In FL, we get pretty strong winds fall through spring (mostly in the afternoon, and sometimes too strong to ride in). I'm 5'-11', 210 lbs. and ride the Trek Domane there, a heavier bike with a long wheelbase, but fitted out with deep CF Aeolus Comp 5s. Speaking from direct experience, I have very nearly been toppled on several occasions in high crosswinds, which can come from nowhere during the course of a 3 or 4 hour ride. Not fun at all......

Took advantage of the day off from work and went on a morning solo ride with the Single Speed. Did a quick 25km loop.

A fairly spirited 41 mile ride out towards Archer, where I stopped at an Elementary School and chatted with several nice ladies checking in guests at the entrance. We still don’t know whether schools will open in the fall.

I could have done 10 or 20 more, but rumblings of thunder and very dark skies made me think twice.
