Not even by rodeo rules (8 seconds). Only thing I've noticed about them, is my LBS never has them parked next to the high end road bikes. hmmmmmmm

I keep trying but I can't get it. I thought if I could do a no-handed trackstand then I would be fine. Guess not.

I can do something like 3 rotations of the wheel before I lose it all.

A few people in my crew ride unicycle and do tricks and stuff. It's pretty damn cool to watch.

Oddly enough, I can ride a unicycle all day long but I can't ride a wheelie on a regular bike to save my life.

I've been getting better with the unicycle but around here, the kids are the best. The local elementary school teaches unicycle riding in gym class I think. There's also a few schools that have unicycle teams.

I started riding one last summer. It is a blast. The only problem is it's way too small. The 20" wheel has me spinning like crazy. I think I'm going to sell it and buy a 27".

I'm told that the easiest way to learn is by pushing a shopping cart while riding at first. You keep your balance, and get to look pretty awesome with a shopping cart.

Unicycles are fine if you want to be all mainstream and complicated.

I've got one in my kitchen. I used to be decent on it in highschool, but I'm way out of practice now. I think I can roll a ways, but turning around and avoiding obstacles is hard.

best that I could muster was a wobbly 40 foot dash !

=)

I read somewhere that its best to learn with one person on either side and have them walk you, but I only had 1 friend available today... so I ended up just holding on to a cabana table and starting off on my own...

My left shin is hurting quite bad from lots of false starts. =)

I can't wait to learn it and go out and play !

unicycles with chain can have a ratio. come on now. suicycles anyone?

p.s. if you are starting out, just find a spot with a long wall, and fall into it when you have trouble. that got me riding fine within a week. at my best, i could jump, spin, pop the seat out, and almost grind. then i realized it was a unicyle and bought a bike. ROCK.

I ride a 24" with a mtb tire. Goes on/off curbs pretty good. Tried out a customers 36". It was way to fast.
Surly will have some trials unicycles this year. You can fit a Magura rim brake to them for hopping. (You will cease to be hip tho)

I have a 24" that I learned to ride by reading Jack Wiley's "The Unicycle Book". It's fun! The first lesson is how to dismount. If you master this first you can minimize falls. Put a block of wood (or the curb) behind the tire so it can't roll back. Place the pedals at 3:00 and 9:00. Standing behind the wheel, place one foot on the leading pedal. With the other foot still on the ground place the seat into position. Now lift the foot off the ground and place it on the other pedal as you roll over the wheel and dismount in front. Grab the seat from behind as you dismount so the cycle doesn't crash. Do this over and over so once you start to ride and loose balance, you can dismount instead of falling. After mastering the dismount try to balance on top before dismounting. Then add crank revolutions as you can.

It took me about 5 nights of 15-30 minutes practice to get it and ride around the block. Holding on to things or people never worked for me.
