Alejandro Valverde...38 years old and still going strong.
I'm impressed at what he is doing. He is 38, and still riding really well out there. I do wonder if this is his last tour. He goes back all the way to the Armstrong days. He is definitely one of the greatest of all time.

He was a huge hero of mine until he got dragged down in the Operacion Porto scandal .... he served his time, and when he came back, he was still a good rider! I was thrilled, and still like seeing him. I don't expect him to win much ... too many hard miles, and the competition is too young .... but he still tries hard.

good luck on the clean sport aspect. this sport. any sport. but i suppose that's another conversation. currently doped, previously doped, always doped, never doped...as least the guy goes for it.

As for admitting guilt .... who cares? He was found guilty a served his suspension. He did his time, he paid his debt to society.
Everyone knows that Everyone Doped. Should there be some requirement that every rider older than some certain age be disqualified? Try enforcing that. And what about riders caught since then? No more fines,, no more suspensions ... one positive test, and out of the sport forever? And how are you going to ensure that riders today are all riding clean? Obviously it would be unfair to eject a bunch of riders while others, equally complicit, were allowed to race.
Even worse, the latest Froome incident has revealed how completely unreliable the current testing protocols can be ... so what precisely do you suggest to ensure both clean riding and fairness?
Seems that while there might be a lot of emotion behind your suggestion, there isn't a whole lot of reason involved. I assume you are a reasonable person and this was just a momentary lapse.

IMHO, Valverde has been one of the most entertaining riders I have ever watched whether in the mountains, hills or flats. He will be hard to replace.

I'm very pleased there are a few on this forum who have all the answers and don't mind sharing with us all. And did I forget to say, correct us all with our inappropriate and inaccurate opinions. I've submitted a secret nomination to all governing bodies. I believe this person can clean everything up and give us all what we want. Clean racing across the board. No more cheating. Best man always wins. What a wonderful day it will be.
