Great performance by Dan Martin that hopefully seals a top ten finish.

thomas has arrived. he's a more complete rider than froomie at this point. arguably slightly worse/equal at hc/cat 1/cat 2 climbs. equal/slightly better at tt's. better at classics-style riding/stages.
not as good of a descender. stages 19 and 20 will decipher the runes for us all.

Too early to compare them, Froome is a four-time TdF winner and current holder of all three Grand Tours. Thomas unlike Dumoulin and Froome didn't ride the Giro in May. If he had would be leading, personally I doubt it.

all three are pretty close so if thomas had ridden the entire giro, where do we put him? another minute down? three minutes down? more?

true. we've got two likely decisive stages and two unlikely to be decisive stages left.

stage 19 will be ripping. that profile is an ugly one. if thomas survives that by finishing within a minute or less of dumou and froomie, i like his chances in the tt.

Froome has said he will now ride for Thomas. I predict stage 19 will change nothing. Dumoulin will be "happy" to finish the tour in second place and won't attack on stage 19, and if he does he"ll quickly realize it's pointless.

probably. overly slender and oxygen-deprived men in brightly colored kit occasionally do ridiculous things tho. why should stage 19 be exempt/bereft of this expectation/hope?

Honestly, I kinda wanted to see Froome win the TDF this year just so I could watch all of the resulting blowback that he and Team Sky would get from it. But Thomas winning would allow Sky to maintain dominance while avoiding a lot of additional hate. It seems like the smart play.
Yes, I do think Sky cheats if you're wondering. I think most of the top riders cheat. Sky is just better at it, and talent/hard work does of course still play a major role too, of course. There is no doubt that everyone at that level works very hard. Nobody in their right mind would deny that.
