Benotto

Tonight I was given a Benotto bike my friend was going to restore. I am looking for info on serial numbers, this one has a serial number 01557. I have found some info suggesting the last two numbers are frame size but don’t see a correlation with the first three numbers. Any thoughts?

The Campagnolo Valentino Extra derailleur and SR crankset was a known combination on mid-1970s Benotto 1500. At that time the 1600 was an entry level model with a hi-tensile frame. You should be able to narrow down the date range using component date codes such as those which should be on the back of the crankarms.

I was wondering if the OP got any info as to what Benotto he has. I just recently picked up a very similar bike. Almost the exact same model but it is built as a fixie right now. Owner gave me a bunch of parts including some Campagnolo sew up wheels. No idea as to what model I have. Most of the other info on vintage Benottos that I see have side pull brakes while mine is like the OPs with center pulls.
