Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Guess what I'm asking is if it's possible to have some kind of long-term sinus issue that would have some symptoms (coughing, messed up tear production), but not others (headaches, nasal congestion)?

We don't do tele-medicine, although apparently that is the FUTURE of medicine. So you would have to come in for an appointment. I am thinking it may be too far.

A few months ago I was seeing a PA at the witch doctor clinic. I was a new-to-him patient. We were discussing what I was taking and my symptoms.

He says, "Well, there's always prednisone."

My brother, the ER doc, just took a job as Medical Director of a direct-to-consumer, app-based, medicine company. You sign up and get 24-7 medical advice, prescriptions, etc. via your phone. They have docs, licensed all over, situated in funky time zones, manning the computers. I think they're paying him a billion dollars a year.

Not happy about it. But seems very few physicians going into primary care. The future of primary care is not only tele-medicine but also NP's/PA's.

From MN.

No, but it was on the way. We first lived in Prospect Heights, which was nicely diverse but starting a lot of spill-over from Park Slope at the time (2003). After a couple years of renting there, we found a condo in neighboring Crown Heights - that was a world away, though less than a 10 minute walk. By the time we left there, it was getting to be a pretty trendy area and, though we didn't move, we were back within Prospect Heights - it was a more marketable neighborhood and the borders has expanded to include us again.

A couple years after moving back to MN, we went back to the old neighborhood while we were in town for a friend's wedding. It was shocking how much it had changed. Lots of white kids ambling between new and numerous nightlife spots. Hell, they'd even taken down the bullet-proof glass at my bodega!

Oh, and the piss-taking suited me just fine.

Fed Ex better watch their step, unless they want out of the freight business altogether. My wheel arrived in Denver on Saturday night, so I guess since it didn't really need to be here by Tuesday, which was it's scheduled day of delivery, it sat for three days.

On another note, Reynolds warranty is strong sauce.

Urgent care referred me to the ER because of neurological concerns. It’s a zoo, closest thing I've ever seen to 3rd world conditions here. Ive been here 3 hours, haven’t seen a doctor yet. I would leave except I’m waiting for cat-scan results. People keep coming in, nobody’s leaving. Out.

Oh, man, Billy. I’m so sorry. All that plus a terrible headache. I hope the concerns are misplaced.

PM if you want to talk by phone, FWIW.

Been away for a couple of weeks fattening up in New Orleans. Donald Link, a noted Cajun chef there has a new Italian place that is dynamite, Gianna. Don’t miss it if you are ever there. Everything he does is superb, but we really fell in love with this new place. Been enjoying the mild weather both in NOLA and Houston. High 40s to high 70s for weeks now.

I’m having another trigger finger (right ring) repaired (released) on Thursday. Should be no big deal.

Not much riding of late. Just call me The Phantom, or Mr. Walker will do.

Due to my existing computer really misbehaving I had to buy a new one. Just starting to set it up. What a PITA. I spent about twice what I wanted to spend, but got a lot more functionality than last time. i7 10th gen, 512 GB SSD storage, 8 GB RAM. Not a real powerhouse but much better than what I have been struggling with. Near as I could tell $799 was a pretty good price. Dell from Costco. Best Buy couldn’t come anywhere near that.

Two other noteworthy events coming up. My oldest granddaughter celebrates her Bat Mitzvah on 1/31-2/1. And Mrs. rpen and I celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary on 2/14. So damn old.

A happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year to you all.

Ugh. I suspect it's all a false alarm, fingers crossed you get reasonably prompt resolution.

I left.

Let me explain, the term “it was insane“ is routinely overused in society, but that ER was nothing short of that, totally insane. I had to keep looking around me to make sure I wasn’t in a third world country or something. I notified the triage nurse that I was leaving and while discussing she conceded this was an unusually bad day. The PA agreed. The cat-scan technician did also. I wanted to take a picture of the place but that would have been immoral, there were sick people lined up everywhere, standing room only. I couldn’t take it anymore, I was suffering too much and the people coming in were sicker than me, crying and moaning and you name it. I would have been there til 10 o’clock.

I’ll take my chances and see a neurologist Thursday or so. I’ll alternate Tylenol and Ibu as needed til then. If I’m lucky it may even go away as it usually does for the rest of the year.

Sounds like a good decision under the circumstances, but man that sucks. It can't have been helping your headache either with all of that chaos and stress around you.

Do please keep us posted.
