Stopped to talk to the workers finishing the bay trail through Albany and asked, "How much longer do you have to go?" The reply was that he expected to have a full life...

I have spent the summer wrenching rather than ridding, I did get 5 bikes sold, have a 6th on CL and thinned out the herd but I am bit melancholy about the lack of rides. I am fortunate to live about a mile from the Puget sound where I can do flat rides with awesome views so for the last 3 days I have been doing short rides on a partially rebuilt clunker challenge Trek 520.

Went for an afternoon ride today instead of my usual 5:30 AM start.
National Weather Service said 13 mph south wind with gusts of 26. Temp of 91, so a change in conditions.
Part of my route is on a bike trail along Richland Creek. I'm in the drops working hard when I see a ground hog out of the corner of my left eye. It is moving full speed for the creek and hits my front tire/wheel at an angle. Scoots the front end over a little, my left foot taps him on the head at the bottom of my pedal stoke, and I'm past him and upright. Crazy and no harm to me or Mr. Hog as far as I could tell.
No pictures cause he wasn't hanging around.

This morning, I went for a quick 13.65 mile ride down to the James River here in Richmond, Virginia and back home. My God, is the river low! Exposed rocks all over the place as the river is about 5' down from it's normal level (We seriously need rain!!)

Some nice early fall riding between Fairplay and Alma on the back roads. The Aspens have just and there is still a lot of green left so there is a lot of colour.

Met up with Law @3speedslow in my old hometown of Jacksonville for the City to Sea ride to Hammocks Beach State Park in Swansboro. A really nice free event where they feed you at the end and have some give-aways. Co sponsored by the county rec department and Jax's oldest bike shop.

Mrs non-fixie and I are riding around Tuscany this week, "training" for L'Eroica.
Love this area, the Crete Sinesi. Rougher than the Chianti, but very beautiful.
Lots of strade bianchi, of course. Sometimes I wished Giancarlo Brocci had taken up stamp collecting instead ...

Just a ride up to the Botanic Garden. Was a bit foggy though:
This spider web was just outside the BG. Neat how the dew highlights something which would normally be all but invisible.
Another spider web, though back at home:
On the way back I also noticed this junior-sized Gitane. It was in a shop window next door to the Alliance Rowing Club of Illinois, so my guess is that it's somehow related to Ron Boi at RRB Cycles. (He's been big into rowing for years.)
The rear derailleur is unfamiliar to me, but the hi/lo limit adjusters are somewhat reminiscent of the Simplex Juy 61 and Raid Export 32, so maybe some low-end Simplex?

Skinner Butte actually. Willamette flows right by it at the north side of its base. Spencer’s is almost dead center in the photo however, looking south.
While Skinner Butte is a much smaller piece of topography, I’m fairly certain it’s only accessible by foot or rugged mountain bike.

While the fall colors in the PNW might be muted in comparison to other areas of the country it is still beautiful in it’s own way. I rode the trail from my house up to Snoqualmie Pass to check out our 1st snowfall of the season. I took my time, snapped a few pictures and savored what may be one of the last nice riding days this year.

Yesterday marked 1 year since a crash put me out of action for 4 months. There are times when it still affects me. I deal with fear and confidence issues while descending on the bike and there's always some pain in my shoulder but really, but it's nothing to complain about.
I’ve come a long ways since then and had a really good year on my bike.
I had lots of time to reflect on that on the ride home today.

Bought the crankset and the seller wanted the entire bike gone for only a few dollars more = such a deal.
Not 100% sure the 55.5 top tube on a 62cm seat tube will work for me.
Even with a 14cm stem, which I have judged to be the longer than optimal, it's still a little tight in the cockpit.
Mid-range Frejus. I need to learn about the brand.
