Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Old Pinarello poll - carbon fork or no?

I know I'm going to hear it from all sides - Italian bike with Shimano components (I'm building this up with the Ultegra 10-speed from my Cervelo), or the vintage guys who say it should have 1980's compontents on it (not doing that either), but here's the deal.

I have a carbon fork lying around and thought I might use it to build the bike up with. This bike will be Ultegra 10 speed everything except an FSA SLK crank. Easton wheels, basically everything off my now upgraded Cervelo Team Soloist.

Should I go with all the above with the original fork:

or with other potential fork:

I'll be cleaning up the frame (taking off some of the stickers, Cdn flag, etc. I put on 10 years ago).

The carbon fork shown on Botto's Pinarello actually looks pretty nice. I don't think the one that was chosen in the OP's picture looks appropriate with the bike.

Either way, steel is better (if you have the chance)!

I like the original fork, however I do think that the cf fork works as well. I would stick with the original, unless there is a specific reason for not using it, like damage.

The original Columbus fork will likely ride just as well as the carbon, plus if it makes a difference, it'll match the Ultegra 10 components better.

I had the same deal. I went with steel. It looks better and the ride is pretty close w/ either fork.

I'm not sure what looks more out of place on that Pinarello, the Canada sticker or the shimano. That should be your next poll.

Unless the carbon fork vastly improves the weight and handling -- and I'm going to guess not -- go with the chrome.

Luckily, it's not the one under recall!

Give up on making it a really light bike, sounds like you have one of those.

Yeah, no chance it'll be a light bike. I just had the carbon fork lying around so wondered if I should build it up with that or stick with chrome. Funny enough - after seeing the pics that I posted my self, I think it is chrome for the win.

Now have to think about stems...
