Found a nice, perfectly true wheel with a 3-speed SRAM i-Motion hub laced to an A319 rim. Hub is predictably broken, as - why did they think they could re-invent the 3-speed? And has no shifter or cable-connector anyway, and none are available. Best put the hub out of its misery. Rim is pretty nice though.

AND the specs for flange spacing and size are close enough between the i-Motion 3 and a Shimano DH-3n20 that I can probably reuse the spokes and have them be the right length. Basically "insert labor here and receive a free dynamo wheel," seeing as I received the dynamo hub in error when I ordered something else. This should be fun. Results tonight.

Here we go! It worked! Basically spokes right up to the tops of all the slots, whereas before they were like 1mm lower. Fine!


Also, I did a bit of a hail-mary rebuild on a friend's suspension fork (friend and fork pictured). I had to use the arbor press to disassemble it, so badly corroded it was, from sitting outside with water in it for the better part of a year. He just wanted to ride, he wasn't picky, so we cleaned it up, replaced the seals, and it appears to work fine. The air piston even holds air!

Getting back on the Legnano after a busy week. We had concrete guys in all week demolishing our patio and driveway, then poured new concrete yesterday. I had to go to a day of Jury Duty in the middle of it all. Finally got the bike out today, and couldn't resist a couple of beauty shots on the new patio. Before the ride, I fixed one of the brake levers that had slipped, and re-wraped that side of the bars. After an 8 mile ride, I spent the afternoon organizing the garage. Too many bikes, they seem to fall from the sky somedays. I hung two wall mounts to free up the overloaded and inconvenient "J" hooks. With the newly poured driveway, we can't drive the cars into the garage, so I took time to spread out and reorganize. I put the bikes in the guest room for safe keeping while the workers were here. I didnt take any garage pictures still too messy, but better.😉

I just finished getting my mid 70s Sekine SHS 271 operational. I had to replace a spoke in the rear wheel. The bike is fairly original other than the pedals (and the consumables obviously plus the saddle). Nothing wrong with the original pedals but it's tough to beat a modern platform pedal for kicking around town in terms of comfort.

Fixing flats on my Peugeot. I rode the bike a few days ago with no problem. I hung the bike on the rack. 4 days, later two flat tires. I saw a thorn in the front and repaired it. Nothing visible on the rear, so I pumped it up and went for a ride. Last night, the rear was flat again, so I spent today fixing that, as well as giving the chain a good clean and lube, and the gold paint, a polish with cleaner wax. All good now ... I hope. I wasn't looking forward to arm wrestling two Pasela PTs on and off, but they must have stretched a little since last time. No big deal dismounting or mounting them this time. 😎 I also fixed a non C &V problem with the power switch cover on my Garmin 810. I put a post about that on the Electronics thread on BF. Easy peasy.

Well, since riding (at least commuting) season is just about over here in Ohio, I did pick up a new set of rollers. My 25-yr-old ones finally gave up the ghost. The PVC drums had gotten warped after being stored in the attic, and the bearings were going bad... On the plus side, the new ones have machined aluminum drums and sealed bearings! I'm ready for a typical Ohio winter now!

Stuck 3ttt stem in a friend's newly-acquired Vitus 979. Didn't want to ruin the fork twisting and pounding more than a certain amount, and too much alu around to use lye, so I was prudent. Had to cut it off and drill it out!



That's all that's left of it. Just happy it wasn't a Technomic, at least this was pretty short!

All I got around to was replacing a rear tire and swapping rear wheel for one with QR (to use an indoor trainer) on my Supercycle Excalibur I just picked up.

Still tinkering with fit on the little 54cm Legnano Gran Premio I picked up following last year's Eroica. I usually ride a 56-60cm, and got such a good deal on this one that I thought it was worth a try. It was close enough to complete the $100 Clunker Challenge after I swapped in a longer Ambrosio stem. I found a longer seat post at the local bike swap, and now its getting close. I have a modern carbon frame that is 55cm, and with a long stem, it works fine, so I have hopes for this one. Its a fun little bike, and a little brother to my 56cm Roma Olympiade, that I've had since new in 1964.


Legnanos, little (as bought) and big. The old seat post was maxed out, but rideable, sort of.

Swept, vacuumed and mopped a hardwood floor in 3 rooms in an attempt to find a brass washer from a Shimano 600 L DT shifter (friction). It was the same color as the floor.

The shifter is for a Shimano "A" braze-on post, and the post is compatible with few shifters, so, yes, it was crucial.

But for the shifters, the bike would be 100% polished Suntour Superbe Pro. Making it more of a concern, these shifters are polished, while many of the available, compatible shifters are painted silver.

Damn right I found it.

I finally(after 5 years) got my shop arranged how I like it, and am going through my five regular riders, one at a time. With plenty of room to move! I am also repainting 'the worst paint job ever', my coupled '84 Letour Luxe.

Pretty bike. I have the two blue ones pictured above. Never seen a red one - stunning! I'm not a fender and chain guard guy, but those are beautiful pieces.

This winter's project is an '84 Fuji Touring Series 3. It's near the high end of the frame sizes I ride but it will do nicely. First low trail bike I've had - about 35mm. Now I'll learn about low trail bikes. Decent shape and low miles. Mostly stock parts except for the RD. I'll swap that out for a Suntour Vx GT. Is ALL filthy with wee rust spots all over the frame. But the bearings are all pretty good so away we go.

So each day now I'm doing something on it. Taking it apart, cleaning something, sourcing replacements or upgrades (ex: removed the Fuji saddle and obtained a Vetta which is half the weight), figuring out processes (ex: OA bath for the frame). Of course I have to, daily, balance the urge to get it done against the need to stretch the project out through the March. Paint touch up will help there.
