Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ride 'Cross Country

Hello all,

My buddy and I are planning on riding 'cross country in 2 years time... that gives us plenty of time to prepare!

I was just wondering if anybody here has any good links / reccomendations concerning the topic; any information will be helpful!

Oh yah, the route we're taking is Diego (San, that is) to Boston.

Thanks for the help!

Way back when the San Diego AYH had a mapped bike route from Oceanside to Ft. Larned, Kansas where it joined the original TransAmerica route. By the time you get to Kansas it will be Mosquito season. Head up the Adventure Cycling route along the Misissippi to the Northern Tier Route, thence to Boston. Maybe get some pedal powered boat and do the Erie Canal across New York.

Or just follow the RAAM Route across the US to New Jersey then take the East Coast Route to Boston.

Some day I would like to bike to Bishop, CA then take old US 6 to Providencetown, MA.

Adventure Cycling Association has probably the most comprehensive set of route maps imaginable. They've been running cross-country tours since 1976 (The Bikecentennial).
