2018 was quite a year for getting projects up and running, but the two major projects that hit the road in 2018 were purchased before the year began. The 1972 Competition that gugie converted to 650b for me was very gratifying, and is now mechanically set, though I'm still fiddling with lighting. The 1977 Argos that fell into my lap at the end of 2017 runs fine, now that I threaded the pedals all the way in.

Find of the year though is something different, and I couldn't have done it without sloar finding it first, and being willing to allow me to give it a home. It's gotten a few modifications, but the 1974 International gets the title.




It may have a triple chainring (I have removed the rack), but this baby flies! It's a very fun ride. Hopefully, like all the good friends in the garage, it will get to spend more time being used for its intended purpose after I live in a better place.

Mid to late 80's Ciocc. Kind of a nostalgia trip, since i had an 81" Ciocc Moka 80 BITD. a guy i ride with on occasion told me about it when we were discussing his gorgeous 80's Merckx, and i mentioned my old Ciocc. The guy who had it got it from a friend who had passed, and he brought it to the LBS for a full service. He put $450 into service, and he let tit languish in his garage. he had had it advertised for a while as a French bike, and i was the first one to call about it. I offered $350, we settled on $400. since i have purchased everything needed to ride L'Erocia CA this year, and i am planning to do so if i can find some time to get it on the road when the weather changes.

Oh, you mean bikes? Maybe this, I dunno, or the Osell or the other Eisentraut. I haven't a clue, but I kinda like this one and spend time thinking about how I will build it up, so it wins.

TWO nice finds this year - a 1983 Pinarello Turismo and a 198x Masi Nuovo Strada. Both are in the restoration process now. They are both coming to Coppi, and the ride will likely see the Masi. Both photos are as-received.

Found locally a couple of months ago. From the ad pics I could tell it was a quality frame. Ribble couldn't give any answers but other bike guys pointed me in Eddy Martelly's direction. He confirmed he made it and that it is built with Columbus SL.






I still have not been able to find out about the paint job or the Ribble decals. Heck, haven't even ridden it yet since winter is here with a vengeance. Right now I'm deciding between upgrading with a brand new Ultegra R8000 group or a sweet Campagnolo Record Titanium 10 speed group I have.

Right now it's sporting a mix of parts.

Mine was the 79 Trek 930 I bought as a frame set and built up as a franken. It fits so good and rides so nice that it's changed the way I experience bicycles.

Not a whole bike, since I've mostly bought good frames in crappy conditions this year but I was really happy with this Specialites TA Pro 5 Vis 52T chainring with bashguard.
It has both 152 BCD, 80 BCD and 50.4 BCD drillings, aka Cyclotouriste and Criterium drilling. Which is not even documented anywhere. As far as I can tell it was only used on some tandems and Schwinn Sports Tourer models.

I had a couple of good ones this year -- enough that I feel satisfied focusing on ideal set up for what I have (versus N+1).

First, a Univega Competizione that was grimy, but in very good original condition. I'm in the process of converting to brifters:



And then a Mercian King of Mercia frame that popped up for sale in the threads here, also dark blue, and with a light blue barber pole. I have yet to take any pics of my own with it, but will start a build thread when I finally get around to it. At the time, I had just sold some items, and I tell myself that when I couple my sales with the purchase of this Mercian, I got it for essentially $11. That's also what I tell my wife.

I've been lusting after a gold Peugeot ever since I saw one on the Pasadena vintage ride a couple years ago. It was a PX10. A gold PR10 popped up on local CL back in August. Probably paid too much, but the paint and decals are in great shape, so the purchase cost was less than I spent just for paint and decals for my Super Course project last year. The original Stronglight crank had issues, so I installed a Sugino GT compact. It's a great ride, and I'm loving the gold paint.

As bought, missing FD, funky brake levers, stripped pedal threads on crank.

Sugino crank, Campy Aero levers, Shimano Exage FD, good to go!

2018 had a lot of months in it, and it was a banner year as nearly 80% of my fleet arrived last year. So it's really flippin' hard to say! Truly blessed, to have even one of these. All finds were notable in one or more ways, and all finds took time, effort, and of course some money to bring to full realization.

A 1983 Guerciotti Super Record? Pfffff, crazy find that didn't yield that conclusion until after a lot of research.
A 198x Davidson Impulse that is completely and utterly a flagship bike? I was so pumped to pick it up that rainy February night. I finally had a Davidson!
A grail find 1987 Schwinn Prologue, found by a BF member, and facilitated by another (generous and gracious) BF member?
A 2015 Cannondale CAAD10 Black Inc. Disc (what a looooong road from killer-deal purchase to super steep learning curve + research to full build) that is very quickly becoming a favorite? It's not C&V, but it has nearly traditional top tube geometry (slight slope), and is a stellar looker and performer.
A 1990 Cannondale ST400, eventually bought half way into the year for rain/winter/tour bike duty, only to be stalled for a number of reasons, now fully assembled and evolved and improved, becoming a phenomenal bike? Tough!

So many choices, but if we are going with an amazing find of the year, I will have to hand it to my Prologue. She, fully worthy of being the second Anastasia in my fleet (she gets a "II" suffix) after my '89 Schwinn Tempo of similar color and Dura-Ace complement. And as such a stunning bike, has enjoyed a few configurations as well as a trip to Canada where we rode up plenty of climbs (with aplomb) and over distance, rocketing down descents at over 40 mph and climbing back up them on the way back at 0.4 mph. She currently wears nearly full 7900-era Dura-Ace, as is fitting per her complexion. 19 lbs as pictured, to boot! I would really like to convert her to 7970-era Di2 (stealthily of course!) as the STI hood shape is sublime and I get to keep the color scheme the same. For now, she's as lean as can be for a fast vintage steel ride.

Found an unopened, pristine condition Denon record album of Swan Lake. The sound is off the charts good.

As for a bicycle the Oschner SL is it. Cost=the price of cables and housing.
