Do I have to

do my birthday ride today? It's 25 degrees. And way too much snow around so the roads have no shoulders. I should really move my birthday to June.

Well, my birthday is in August so I have no business judging you on this

Couple of qualifying questions:
1) By birthday ride, do you mean riding your age in miles?
2) If yes to #1 , then it kind of depends on how old you are. Well, that wasn't a question but didn't seem right to ask

Personally, I'm not too OCD about riding my age (or more) on my actual birthday as long as I do it some time on or after that day during the season.

My birthday is Saturday with a forcasted high of 36 ℉ and rain all day. Nope, not gonna do it... I've ridden in weather like that plenty of times and I'm old enough to know its not that great...

...But as soon as the weather is decent I'll do a ride that is double my age in miles to make up for it.

1) Yes, I meant riding my age in miles.
2) Old enough to be on this forum.

Maybe I'll do the birthday ride with my husband on HIS birthday. (We're the same age). October is lovely around here.

If you wait six months to do your birthday ride, you have to ride an extra half a mile for it to count.

Move to Australia!

My birthday is tomorrow ... it's supposed to be +25C and we'll be in an area with nice quiet country roads.

Don't worry about it. I did it for you today with a little extra. You can pay me back anytime you want when the weather is better. OH, a bit windy 75 miles today.

wishes also !!!

Me thinks FL. is a bit closer for NomarsGirl and except for the wind, a good day for riding today.

Thanks! You did more than a bit extra. I'll be out on the road sometime in April. March is NOT riding weather here. There are some crazies, but I'm not one of them.

Australia might be a bit complicated for a move. Visas and all that. I could move to Europe tomorrow if I wanted. Dual citizenship with Ireland.

Have a great birthday!

In snow and ice the unofficial rule exceptions which I just made up convert miles and kilometers to yards and meters. One lap around the football field or park should do.

Prorate the extra miles depending on how long your delay is. One month, add 1/12 of your age for example. But a few days either way is still within the traditional rules.

1. I have a God son who was born on Dec. 25. From the very first his mother celebrated his half birthday on June 25. I thought it was unconventional and non traditional at the time but today I marvel at her wisdom.

2. Whoever provides the trophy gets to set the rules. Since nobody is offering to give you a trophy, nobody else deserves an opinion.

Garbage - the rules must have been made by the folks with birthdays in good seasons for riding. I have a winter birthday as well and have rarely been able or motivated to do a ride on the exact date. Most of the time I'm inhibited by weather but as my birthday is very close to another major holiday there are other factors.

It's not so important that you ride on that exact date. Just that 1) you can do it and 2) you will do it. Why not do it in advance? Are there any rules about that?

The good thing is that once you hit 50, most rules don't apply(if you don't want them to). So do your birthday ride when ever you feel like it, or not. And if any body has a problem with that, you also have the right to not really care what anybody else thinks about anything after you turn 50.

Enjoy the trainer.

Are you kidding? I did my FIRST birthday ride when I turned 50! (Missed the 50 plastic crows my loving family was going to have planted in front of my office that day, too!)

So do your birthday ride when ever you feel like it, or not.
Well, yeah. It's not like we're professional cyclists. It's supposed to be fun!

One of the advantages of being qualified to post on the 50+ is that at that age we begin to follow our own rules. So whatever you do is fine.

Yeah, I know. If you can't have fun with something, it's not worth taking seriously!

What I want to do is have a big pink donut on my birthday and ride off those calories when the weather is more suitable.

March is still ice fishing season here in Michigan. I may venture out a time or two in April, for SHORT rides.
