MTB or Road tomorrow?
AGH! I can't decide what bike to ride, or where to go!
what criteria would you use, to make the same decision?
I checked giggle & don't know if this will help ...

- Ease of implementation
- Cost
- Ease of modification/scalability/flexibility
- Employee morale
- Risk levels
- Cost savings
- Increase in sales or market share
- Return on investment
- Similarity to existing organization products
- Increase in customer satisfaction
- FUN FACTOR!

I don't see the "F" word anywhere in your list. "Fun".
"Return on investment or market share." "Increase in customer satisfaction". Haven't you ever done something just for the hell of it?

I only have road type bikes, so I usually just have pick a direction. A couple of my bikes can be used for easy trail riding, but we do not have much in trails here on Delmarva. There is a state park a couple of miles from my house that has gravel/sandy roads, maybe 4 miles in all, very scenic but I hardly ever do that. Makes a mess of the drivetrain.

My criteria is simple.....
If I CAN go mountain biking, I go mountain biking.
Otherwise, I go road/gravel riding.

I mostly commute, so for my weekend rides I pick one of the bikes I haven't been riding. If it rains, that means one with fenders, if there's snow or ice that means the snowbike, even if I've ridden it all week.
As far as where to ride, I choose a location I haven't been in a while, and decide whether to take a known route or plan out a variation for variety. It's hard to find a completely new destination, but since Colorado Springs keeps growing, every year seems to yield a new neighborhood.
I like the idea of a food or coffee destination, but I don't like to eat big in the middle of a ride...with the exception of rides over 50 miles which for me are only one or two, maybe three a year.
Bottom line...pick any bike, choose any route, and if you find yourself second-guessing your choice...PEDAL HARDER!
Follow your bliss!

I started making a list of where I rode this time last year & the spring & remembered a place I tried too early in the spring & got turned back due to soft snow. plotted out a cpl trail options & printed a fresh map. it's a 2 hr drive so I have to get going!

I only have road bikes, so if weather is good, I'm out the door. If I had Mtb is likely have to drive to wherever we ride.

I'm sharing the OP's dilemma here. Tomorrow the weather will be perfect for a trip on the road, but I just bought a new mtn bike last weekend. I just finished getting the new bike's fit dialed in, and it's begging to go play.

If the correct answer here is not obvious, you should just sell the MTB

Bought a used bike at a great LBS in North Andover on the way home. PM me if you're interested in the shop--definitely worth a stop
Riding back home through Lawrence sucked. Was not the best way to end such a great day of riding.

I hear ya, main St Tewksbury is no picnic either, full of road craters on the shoulders. was the shop Decarolis Brothers Cyclists 2302 Turnpike St SUITE 101, North Andover, MA 01845? They had a 2nd shop for a short time in Tewksbury, but sadly they closed it. But he often told me about their shop in Andover.

cool. the guy here was so nice I bought chain lube a few times, a rear shift cable & the time I broke a spoke biking to work, I got a ride to the shop & he replaced it & trued the wheel same day so I could ride it back home at the end of the day. I was very disappointed that he closed that shop. nothing else good near my office
