So problem with my new bike: My front wheel rubs on my fork sometimes. I kept thinking it was my brake pads but I couldn't understand why because I kept checking and it looked fine. Apparently its the wheel/fork.

It spins true, but just for some reason appears to be slightly offset to the left side of the fork gap. Do I need to just tighten the hub or something? or is the wheel bad?

Sounds like a wheel build issue. I'd take the wheel in to a shop that knows about wheels.

Where does it rub the fork? If it is lateral play it should hit the brake pads first. Is it hitting the bottom of the fork crown?

Also, what happens if you flip the wheel (so the QR lever is on the wrong side)?

The fork is actually curved, so it's wider where the brake pads are and gets thinner towards the middle, which is where it is rubbing. it's also the opposite for the wheels, where the wheels are thinner at the brake track and get wider at exactly the point the fork gets thinner (d'oh).

I'm going to try flipping the wheel. Would explain why I haven't noticed it until after I took it on a trip last weekend (so took the front wheel off to put in car).

I think I'm going to hang on to the Reynolds tubulars. I ordered a cheap pair of tires to replace the Tufos - Specialized Espoirs - because I can get them at cost and figure if I screw these up mounting them, it won't be a great loss; also, as a training tire, they should be relatively bombproof. I'm surprised that they can offer 220 tpi and the newest Gripton compound at that price point. The plan for next season is to replace the Espoirs with the S-works Turbo Allaround 2 after Rouge-Roubaix. The Allarounds won't be available for a couple of months, anyway.

So you are going to use the Psimets as training and pit wheels?

I haven't figured that part out yet. I'm definitely keeping them, I'm probably keeping the Reynolds. I'm still up in the air about whether I want to put up with the additional hassles that come with tubulars, but I do want to give them a fair try.

New things are usually that way.... growing pains with Pioneer huh. I'm actually thinking of trying Garmin Vector.. I don't know why.. curious about left and right I guess, since my left knee is suspect. Using powertap currently but wifes bike has stages.

The initial setup, with the wireless uploading and whatnot, was a little painful. Also setting up the pageset data fields with a conductive touch screen is really painful. Unlike garmin though, these are stored in an XML file so I copied them and will never have to do it again.

I think it would be easier if the directions weren't clearly translated poorly from Japanese! But, now that it's all done, the wifi upload is nifty.

I ordered Vectors.. Large pods to go with my THM M3.. which I have no BB for since they are out of stock Winter project ...that and converting my Di2 to internal seatpost battery from external... gotta get those grams back for heavier pedals, that and rebuilding rear wheel with no powertap.

Pioneer has a pretty good deal going..

I like my Vectors.

If you do have leg issues the Left Right Balance helps out a lot. There is also pedal efficiency and torque effectiveness which after reading some journals I don't think are as critical.

I'm curious to see how this comes along. Garmin finally has competition. I like the new Pioneer stuff (I'm guessing you just have the head unit), a tad bit concerned that they may get pushed out of what has become a competitive market. The force vector readings (where the watts are being produced in the pedal stroke) seems like a game changer.

I didn't buy the power meter, just the head until. I would wager a large portion of whatever we're wagering that force-vector stuff is useless. Like runners asked to change their stride, focusing on a different pedal stroke/stride probably leads to lower efficiency.

probably more than you want to spend.

$39 for the 6800s and $160 for the 7900. the 6800s are technically used (=installed), but the teeth are in as close to new shape as they can be when they've ever had a chain touch them. low miles.

digging an old post but i was curious about this: since the new 4-arm shimano uses the same bcd for all its rings (correct, right?) they don't have issues wrt stiffness for the bigger rings? not that i would notice it but curious all the same. i ask because i may be looking at getting a 5800 or 6800 group and was looking at crank options.
