Trek 720 Multi Track for Touring?

Trying to help my brother find an inexpensive touring bike for a week long jaunt this summer.

want to know what people think of this.

That frame would make an excellent touring or even expedition-grade bike - but swap out the rusty chain!

It is a good frame, but does need a lot of work...I don't know

Dude, go for it. I did a lot of touring on an slightly older model of the same bike. It worked fine.

Dude, compare these pics. I once had a Trek 720 and measured the frame. The measurements came out identical to Trek 520. You will not get the benefit of double-butted-made-in-USA goodness and the rear wheel dropouts are a little different, but it does have the geometry. Oh, and no requisite third bottle mount or eyeletted rims. The beefier rims and double-butted frame came on the Trek 750.

very old link;looks great! I have the interchange panniers also with trunk bag. My concern is bigger panniers will hit my heal. Also, are front bags same interchange bags. Do you fit a tent & camping equipment ? New to touring, wondering wondering your bags? Thanks , Charlie 720
