Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

For Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork Owners....

How much tire clearance do you have? I put on some 38c tires (that are true 38mm in diameter) and all I have left is about 5mm before the tire comes in contact w the fork crown. Luckily because I don't ride in mud it's not too much of an issue but I expected better clearance from other pictures that I saw and it just triggers me sometimes. I also bought this 2 months ago so they may have made it shorter from what it used to be but I have no idea.

Feel free to comment with any feedback. Thanks.

They'll take it back if you don't like it.

I've been using it for almost 2 months, I don't think they will.

They were going to take by my 3.5 year old fixed gear frame when I broke the bb shell but it wasn't worth shipping due to the discount I got when it was purchased.

Ok, I guess if I ever get a new fork I can send the old one back. I'll probably stick with this for now.

Sorry no advice for you OP as I've been wondering how big of a tire you can go myself, how close you can get to the fork before there's a potential problem... I guess so long as the wheel is perfectly straight & it never touches, what's the difference? Debris?

OT...

Somehow I missed that policy.

Because asI'm sitting here waiting for my brand new Raleigh to be returned to me after having to immediately take it back to the store where I purchased it after it started falling apart, I really wish I'd have gone with the nashbar I was considering instead. Even if shipping it back to nashbar took $100(?), I would have gladly taken that much of a hit on this one when I found out how long I'm going to be without my new bike because everything wasn't tightened down right, if I could have given it back to them for $100 less.

And the irony is, the main reason I skipped getting the nashbar, or having any bike shipped to me, is because I wanted to buy in person from a dealer, so I'd know it'd get put together right.

So I actually found this picture, and found it interesting because it's not the same fork that I'm using and the front tire is much bigger than I hoped to use:

Those are 45c tires, where I would only want to go up to 42c at the most. From what I saw it managed just fine, and considering the terrain that I'll be riding in I think I could manage if I go bigger. I'll probably get a better fork later on if I can afford it still.

It's a CX frame though and normal CX bikes were designed to run 32-35mm tires. I'd be happy it fits 38mm as my Bianchi Reparto Corse can fit a 40 in the fork but the frame can only do a 38 or a 40 if I don't pedal hard. Heck my friends Felt CX bike can't even fit anything above a 35mm tire.

I get that, however my frame has much more clearance than my fork does. I could most likely run a 45-50c in the rear before I start having clearance issues.

Just checked Nashbar's website. The current version of their fork has 8-9mm LESS axle-to-crown than my Nashbar CF cross fork, which was purchased 7 years ago.

Wow. 7 years. I'm getting old.

BL: My experience with the fork is irrelevant for the current product.
