Unknown, frame looks ok in the pictures. Another scenario I thought of, assuming that this had the MXL fork, is that someone robbed the fork from this huge frame to cut down and use in a smaller frame as a 1" threadless setup. Or just repurposed it in a less cool way, it's all speculation really .

I'm afraid D7 is not a serial number - I'd rather see a pic

I'll try, though personally I don't doubt the seller. I sent him a photo of another Corsa Extra Max bb shell, and he confirmed D7 only stamped in the same place on the bb shell as the one in the sample photo.
Why can't D7 be a serial number? In your lists you have C13, C33 for example, and only 5 away we find D12, all with no leading zeros stamped. Regards, Sean.

All the examples you gave are 2-digit numbers, not to be confused with frame size.
In the case of the 7 designation, it's not clear if it's the size or the serial number - that's why they used to add a 0 (or several zeros) before the serial number digit (and didn't do that with the frame size).

I love Merckx styling, Honestly nothing like it in those subtle details.

Does anyone know if Merckx ever made an externally routed rear brake frame?
