Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's interesting that the calorie count is 1,223 for 40 miles at 126W. I don't have a power meter yet and my Apple Watch says I burnt 923 calories on a 21 mile ride (15 mph). I wonder if I'm really only half as efficient as you at cycling (I weigh 185 lbs). Which power meter do you have btw?

The strava app is pretty inadequate at tracking calorie and power. That power is an equation that the people of strava have created so I wouldn’t go by it at all. The time and distance is really the only thing that is accurate.
IMO the only significance for me of the power on the strava app, since it is all i have ever used, i can see how I have improved over the months. When I first started average power was 70 the highest i think i have seen on a 20 miler is 169. Doesn’t mean anything but it’s cool to see the difference.

Interesting; I didn't know it does that.

I would say it depends on how close you are and how openly you have discussed personal issues in the past. This is the kind of discussion that would much better to have in person rather than texting, if at all possible.

Calorie count can vary quite a bit. I'm at the same weight as you and on a spirited solo ride I'll average about 1k calories per hour (this is with a PM). I've also gone out with friends that are relatively new cyclists and the pace has had my calories tank down in to the I-might-as-well-have-gone-for-a-walk region.

My old steel in commuter dress. I did a 300K on that, and thought I would have to slit my throat before I got done.

I might try to get in a 200k this year. 300k in one day? Not a friggin chance. Would love to get in to multi-day credit card tour, but that's prolly a ways off.

My wife and I, although we get along now also, had some bumps in our marriage the first few years and we went for couples counseling which we thought was VERY helpful.

My wife suggested I text or call our nephew and let him know what we went through, and what worked for us.

I am thinking fools rush in where wise men fear to tread, and my contact with him may be well-intentioned but may make matters worse.

Comments? Should I post in the 41 with a poll? Write to Dear Abby??
My opinion? If you have a good relationship with him, I don’t see the downside other than the awkwardness. The marriage may be doomed, but if the kids care about each other, neither one has an Axis II disorder, and they want to make it work, it shouldn’t go down without a sustained shot at counseling.

If it helps them get to an understanding, then great, but I'd always wonder why two people who are able to get to a good place can't figure it out on their own.

AG and I had some friction while getting used to each other, but not nearly like this couple. And it was before we got married; I don't understand how that changes things, because it didn't for us. We're not normal, though.
Neither are we. Normal is over-rated.

Pretty sure neither one have any mental health disorders, so I am hopeful they simply had a blowout fight and it can be resolved. But I don't know the details.

Or run out of drugs. When I rescheduled it took her like three minutes to figure out if they had enough to do it.

It's a good (and fat) book on the run-up to the Civil War; I'm just not a good reader

For joints, though.

Someone should write about a despondent cyclist, sidelined with ballooned knees, who was genetically modified and within months could ride a century with no food or water.
