Nexus 8S hub with a Shimano 8S barend shifter?
I can't stand twist shifters and flat bars so I want to swap my flat bars for drop bars (from a Bike Firday Tikit) and I would like to use a standard Shimano 8S STI indexed bar end shifter.
should this work?
I have the barends installed for a test but so far the hub is not shifting well. I only get about 2 or 3 shifts in the range of 7 clicks.
Now, the cable length might beed to be adjusted (shortened) and I know I have to algin the yellow markers on the hub.
But I have run out of daylight and so will look at all that more closely tomorrow.

A standard 8 speed shifter will not work as overall cable pull and increments are different.

SB-N080 will work with Nexus and Alfine. The overall cable pulls between the two are the same, but the shift paddle actions will be opposite. In short, SB-N080 will work with Nexus. Thank you for reaching out!
Hope this helps, and best of luck.

I bought some cones from this vendor about 10 years ago and their shipping & prices were excellent.

From my correspondence with Microshift, iirc, shifters marked Nexus or Nexus/Alfine will work correctly with Alfine SG-S500 & SG-S501. Those marked Alfine will work correctly with Alfine hubs later than SG-S501.
Correctly: 1 is 1 and 8 is 8.
With a different generation of Alfine: 1 is 8 and 8 is 1
