A random selection from the archive…
King Kelly towards the end of his career and when he was perhaps the last top pro still on clips and straps.
Iconic gold Benotto pips at least equally iconic blue Gios, perhaps at some Giro d’Italia stage finish.
Vittoria shoes promotion and the love-it-or-hate-it Atala team jersey.
Edwig van Hooydonck on a Roubaix day too warm for his signature knee-length shorts. Outstanding Colnago Master with extended head tube and Suntour Superbe Pro.
All-time favourite profile with so much detail - Nuovo Record inner chainring for increased rigidity, widened toe straps, often-seen track pedals, rubber caps on shift levers etc.
Stunning Celeste Bianchi and great Ambrosio Metamorphosis tubular rims which seemed indestructible back in the day.
Kelly in perhaps a Tour Prologue or TT.

Oops, I was wrong. In '79 De Vlaeminck rode for the GIS team. De Vlaeminck-Brooklyn and Moser-Sanson means '76 or '77, and in those years they fought it out many times in the sprint. Giro di Toscana, Tre Valli Varinese, Trofeo Pantalica or the Giro of '76 all yield the same result!
