For reasons that make sense to me, my diet is plant based.
My quite-adequate protein intake comes from legumes, whole grains, and corn.
As has been pointed out elsewhere in this thread, my body is able to utilize the amino acids that I combine on my plate in order to build the necessary proteins for my body to thrive.

The quality of my diet allows me to monitor my caloric needs and change the quantity of foods as needed. (BMI>22.0, eat less; <21.0, eat more)

In this, as in most of life, there is not only one right way.

Much as I'd like to eat the garlic with the cruciform vegetables, when I do that, the aftereffects are considered a war crime by international convention.

LOL, "It smells ... like victory."

Actually, for me I think that's just part of the whole "cleanse". Eventually you will run out of toxic stuff to purge. In theory anyway.

Another thing I was raised eating and my wife wasn't. I wanted to get her to like them, so one time Ibought the smallest ones I could find. Carefully cleaned them, and blanched them in salted water until just done. Tossed them in a hot skillet with olive oil and chopped garlic for a bit. Served them with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano and freshly ground pepper.

She said, "These are the best Brussels sprouts I've ever eaten. Please don't ever make them again."

Generally speaking, fad type diets are not well rounded enough to be healthy long term, even short term for that matter. Keto long term comes with increased risk of kidney stones, increased risk of bone fractures, and in creased levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.

By the way, I'm not a vegan. I don't even play one on TV. I eat a little of everything, but even when I was a weight lifter I didn't go for the keto BS. Yes, it gives amazing results in lowering body fat, and increasing muscle mass, but that comes with a price I don't want to pay. So many of my friends got "keto flu," and were messed up in other ways, tachycardia, the shakes, etc . Not worth it.

Will do thanks. Anything about ice cream? My nutrition class in grad school said it was the devil’s spawn and should be avoided at all costs. 500 gallons later all blood work and pressure this year are in the normal range, as well as EKG. Maybe it’s the red wine chaser?

Thanks for turning me on to it. Read a review of Game Changers by Healthline. Interesting conclusions. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition...ew#bottom-line

Just because most people love to eat and eat several times during the day doesn't mean every body's like that. Some people almost have to force themselves to eat and are lucky if they eat one meal a day (like myself). So, relying on real food to get your needs of protein means you won't get anywhere near what your body needs. Also, I don't know how to cook meat/chicken -not that it's hard but I don't have patience for cooking- and I hardly ever eat any meat. For me, I rely on mainly two sources for my protein : Legumes (especially kidney, black turtle and navy beans and also chickpeas). Protein powder. And then cheese/milk and some eggs every now and then. But I still have to kind of force myself to eat/drink what I need of protein. Eating is more like a chore for me.

Perhaps the best response would have been "How do you Not?", thus throwing the onus back on the OP and stifling the nonsense debates.

I encourage everyone in this thread to go visit a slaughterhouse ASAP. If you're anything like me, you will never want to eat meat again, after seeing (and smelling) some of the things you'll see there.

Impressive. Are you training to compete in the Olympics or TDF ?

Just out of curiosity, how many people advocating the use of whey protein also rail on about the evils of processed food?

I've always tried to keep fit by adding weights (curls, bench, etc.) 4-5 times/wk since I was a young teenager. I always tried to eat healthy and my wife does a good job ensuring that now.
However, I have noticed my body muscle mass has "shrunk" a bit over the last few years but at 60yo (now) that's to be expected somewhat.
I recently started adding a serving of whey isolate powder into my daily routine and have to admit that my work-outs the last 4 wks have been more positive. ie less aches, more endurance, quicker recovery etc.
May be just in my head but I'm going to continue taking the whey isolate as a supplement to my meals.....

I've talked to people who worked at a big milk processing plant, and they said that the whey that's skimmed off, if you ever saw what it looked like, you'd never eat it. I've had unflavored whey that tasted pretty nasty, so I have an idea what they're talking about. I think this is the reason most whey has very heavy flavoring added to it.
