Bash guard questions

I would like to replace my 42t chain ring with a gash guard. My crank is a triple 42-32-22. I am wondering what size bash guard do I need. Do I need one that is the same diameter as the ring I will be replacing, or will it need to be the diameter off my 32t chainring?

I believe just slightly larger than the largest ring that you still have(the 32 in your case) is the way to go. You'd probably want a 32t or 34t bash guard. If you go smaller than your 42t ring, you'll gain ground clearance for going over logs, etc.

Grinder and an old big ring. You can make a nice bash with that.

Clearly, it needs to be bigger so it takes the hit before the ring does.

Tom
Bash rings are sized for the chainring they'll adequately protect.

In other words, a 32T bash would be fine for a 32T chainring.

This. Although I have a 32T chainring but went with a 34T bashguard so I could go with a 34T ring in the future without having to change the bash.
