86/87 Corsa Extra, refinished by Star Enamellers with new Cyclomondo decals. 105 11 speed gruppo with a mixed bunch of old and new touches. Enjoy!

Summer '18 build # 2

Get a load of this one, I call it The Molteni Superlight.



98 MX-Leader, custom 60cm pro frame with 5cm seatpost extension. 105 11sp gruppo with Zipp 1080/404 wheelset. Refinished by Star Enamellers with new Cyclomondo decals. Custom painted everything: one-piece aero bars, Dura-Ace crankset, headset, carbon forks. Lots of small details.

A twenty year old bike, in the largest frame size they made. Weighs 8.9kg as you see it here, not bad, eh?

1999 or 2000 Flyer 54cm in Team Domo Farm Frites colours. Columbus Zonal with the original carbon threadless forks and a custom 150mm crankset. Frame came from France, in good nick but needed a few paint repairs and a fresh clear coat. Looks amazing!
Built for my wife as a trainer bike, but I'm open to offers. Alivio 9 x 1 setup with carbon bars and some nice lightweight WH-550 wheels.

I've not seen a 650b F&R frame, but they built many lo-pros that took the 650b front wheel with 700c rear.

I hate to say it as i sound like im thrashing on your style but i dig your bikes before you set them up for your riding style..just personal opinion. But you gotta ride how you gotta ride!

Pretty much perfect Dura Ace 7402/03 8 speed, period correct DA cable housing, Mavic CD4 rims, Rolls Due saddle, white leather bar tape, Cinelli stem & bars. Best of everything.
Lots of polishing on this one- seatpost, stem, bars, crank, rings.
A 55, which is too small for me, so will wind up on the block come Fall:

I purchased this wonderful bike here from a bike forums member, and did a total overhaul. Campagnolo 8 speed Veloce: FD, RD, Shifters, and headset. Avanti dual pivot calipers, Old Chorus crank (solid), Shimano 600 Tri colour BB, Mavic Askium Race wheels (these have a steel 9-11 speed freehub, and i can assure you the 8 speed exa drive cogs fit and work perfectly on it), Rubino pro speed tires. ITM Bars/stem, San Marco saddle, Chorus or ? areo post. Campy Triomphe pedals. The ride is fantastic, I really like the geometry with the shorter top tube, as compared to the 90's BianchisI ride

That Ti frame is lush, and that 7-11 looks mint! Here's my Columbus SLX 1985 Team Panasonic I've retro-roadied with 20 speed Campag but still kept it traditional looking.

Surprised no one has posted the Hitachi version yet, I've got one in que for a major tune-up with a nice Athena Synchro-7 gruppo that I can't wait to dig into.

I had someone call me to sell their 7-11 recently, a referral from the shop, so I bought it (for a great price) even though it's a cm or two on the big side and even though it has had a triple sub-gruppo subbed on (I sold the triple cranks and bb yesterday). Rides great despite any sizing issue:



Then there's this 61cm(C-C) EX Ti with it's original 7700 gruppo that I bought way up in the Sierra, in a senior-living community. The owner turned out to be an ex-pro flat-track racer, and we had a good chat after he had cooled down following an aggressive negotiating session over the phone with Joe Englert (who found the seller via CL, and who kindly negotiated for me).

Rides and handles just incredibly well despite it's apparent poor fit (I'm 5'9"), shocking really! I'm looking for a buyer so heads up on the buy/sell forum!

Went budget(?) modern with the new Campy Centaur 11 speed group and H+S's Polished Archetypes.

Makes a huge difference for me on longer rides with back and neck issues.
At the time I couldn't bear to add the second lever and offend her dignity further.

Here's my 1998 Corsa 01 at Bloemendaal aan Zee yesterday. Campagnolo Daytona groupset, Mavic CXP33 rims, 3TTT stem and bars. It came with a nearly new Sella Italia Ti Flight saddle, which I plan to sell to get back a bit of what I spent on it. It's a beautiful saddle but I cannot go more than 5 miles on it, whereas the Brooks is, well, a Brooks. Plus this is not a weight weenie bike.



I got it on the Netherlands sales site, marketplaat.nl, which is somewhere between eBay and CL (very loose auction style, completely non-binding bidding). The seller listed it four times (or was it five?) over the course of this summer. He cancelled my first bid in his first listing, perhaps because I had an error in my listed phone number. He then cancelled that ad completely, and re-listed it a few days later. I fixed my profile, and bid it up to 450 euros, where it sat for a couple of days. I contacted him about coming to pick it up if there were no more bidders, and he told me he was out of town for two weeks and wouldn't do anything till then. Then he cancelled that ad the next day. The third time he listed it, I didn't bid, but contacted him to try to clarify what was up (I'm thinking he's either really indecisive and a bit of a squirrel, or it's part of some kind of scam). Mind you this is when he was supposedly still out of town, though I didn't call him out on that. He was quite reasonable as we messaged, and I asked him what price he was looking for, and we could just do a deal. He told me 400 euros (!?) which I agreed to, and I put that bid up on his auction listing. We set a time for me to go to Rotterdam that Saturday, and he gave me his address. The night before, he contacted me that the sale of a CF bike he was going to buy had fallen through (in truth, he was simply outbid), and so he would keep the bike longer, but keep the ad up and mark it 'reserved.' He left the ad up, never marked it reserved, and someone eventually overbid by a few euros. I cancelled my bid, the other seller cancelled his, so the top bid was now showing as about 350 euros. Then the ad expired after a month, with no other bidders, likely because I wasn't the only one seeing his crazy pattern and thinking this was pointless. I waited a while, checking other Merckx listings (there are a lot of them in my size around here!), and on a lark (a good six weeks after his last listing expired) I sent him a message asking if he ever sold it, and what his plans were if he had not. He responded that he was definitely going to sell it, and would probably list it again in a few weeks, when summer was over. I knew it was futile to try to hold him to our previous deal, and so just asked him to let me know when he re-listed. I was checking Marktplaats pretty much daily for any Merckx listings, (there were several interesting candidates, though none close to Amsterdam), and so I saw his new ad - it went up less than 24 hours after I had just nudged him about selling! At that point I just laughed out loud.

I didn't bid for a few days, then bid once each day. At first I bid 20-25 euros over each previous bid, but then some joker started over-bidding me by 1-2 euros, so I started doing the same, but again after waiting 24 hours. I'd decided I was happy to go to 500 euros, and at this point I wasn't emotionally invested, after having been disappointed repeatedly (and not being at all sure if the sale would happen regardless of my bids. I figured I'd just play this silly game. After I sat as top bid for a few days, the seller wrote me that he would end the auction on Friday, 3 days hence, and that several other buyers were contacting him directly to buy it, and he'd told them the same, and that they had to bid through the site "for transparency." And, I thought, so we would all keep bidding against each other to his advantage. His nudge got the joker to come over the top two more times, each new bid a single euro more than mine. My strategy now was to overbid him by whatever tiny amount he bid, and do it immediately. He quit after pushing the price up about 4 more euros. The punchline of this whole wacky transaction is that the seller was, in person, a very nice guy, and I think he was just anxious about selling. And I still got the bike at a price that was below what several other Corsa 01s or Corsa Extras sold for this summer in the Netherlands, and much cheaper than I ever saw one in the States that was near me (and below my 500 euro max).

Sorry for the long story, but this was so different from every transaction I've ever had, bike related or not, that I had to put it down. Anyway, the bike is as advertised by so many people here - wonderful! It's like a surgical instrument, and loves to go fast. I'm very happy to be a member of the Merckx club.
