Why do bikers shave their legs?

Sorry I'm sure this question has been asked plenty of times but I couldn't find it trying to search it.

So why do bikers shave their legs?

Of all that, tradition is probably the most important factor (that of trying to fit into a group).

I would complain about using the search function but this site's search function is completely worthless.
So just enter this into google:

I've been told 3 reasons (I had asked the question too).

1) Aerodynamics - I had to laugh!

2) Weight savings - that figures!

3) Medical reasons - in case of a crash, often resulting in really bad road burn (more like road gash)... the wounds can be cleaned and dressed easier with all the hair out of the way. Stops post infection and makes bandage or scab peel less painful. - makes sense!

^ On top of that, pros and their care team claim hair free legs yield better massages.

^ good point z415.

Touring cyclists require post massages after long races.

Leg shaving is tradition for the homoerotic cyclist who find the unshaven men riding bicycles "Unthexy". Besides, most women don't find it particularly appealing to feel like they are sleeping with a young boy at night.

You sure it's your legs giving them that impression?

Because, of course, the hair stops growing during the healing phase, right?

That was offensive to all the crossdressers like me in this forum, sir.
This is your first warning.
Thank you.

Please refrain from the use of the word 'gay' in any context other than 'happy'.
This is your first warning.
Thank you.

as per the health reasons, it's not just after the crash but during, hair picks up pollutants and dirt, this will all get ground into the road rash as the crash happens. Remove the hair, it doesn't get ground into the wound, and it heals faster, not heresay, but actual real world experience. As a hairy legged skateboarder, I've had plenty of road rash, then started cycling as physio for a knee injury. So I've had road rash both haired and hairless, it heals faster, and waaaaaay less prone to infection and yes the bandages are easier to replace.

Yes the hair grows as you heal... do you wait til you have a full beard before you shave your face?

I can't speak for others but I shave my legs for the following reasons:

1% aerodynamics
9% road rash healing
10% ease of applying sunscreen/embrocation
29% tradition
51% vanity
