WTB: Campy Nuevo Record Rear Wheel / Hub

Hi,

Looking for a Campy rear wheel to complete a build on a '74 Paramount. I'd like a complete wheel but would take a rear high flange hub with freewheel. Prefer Nuevo Record but I think Super Record would work.

Thanks!

Hubs are just "Record": no Nuovo or Super. Are you looking for a clincher or tubular rim? What front wheel are you trying to match?

There actually was a Super Record hub, but they're quite rare. They had titanium axles instead of steel, otherwise the same as Record. Durability issues limited their appeal, and they went out of production quickly.

Right, and it's Nuovo, not Nuevo. It's Italian, not Spanish.

Do you need 120 mm or 126? Tubular or clincher? If clincher, do you need a 27 or a 700c rear?

Also why only a rear? Are you OK with mismatched wheels? That would drive me nuts and I'm not terribly OCD on a build.

I have a very nice set of period correct wheels (campy hi flange tipo hubs (one level down from the NR hubs you are looking for), 27 inch ambrosio clincher rims, 120 mm rear wheel) that would look sharp on a 1970s era bike. If interested, you can PM me. The NR hubs are more appropriate for the Paramount but these are nice wheels and fine hubs.

Thanks gents. The original owner of my '74 Paramount 10-9 wanted a rear wheel better suited to hills. He took it to a bike shop for replacement. He left the original rear wheel at the shop. When he discovered the error and went back for it, it "disappeared."

I'd like to either find a period correct rear wheel or build one with the correct high flange Campy hub (I could use a gold-finished Dura Ace to replicate the original gold finish freewheel).

I think the spacing was 120mm on those bikes but I'm on the road now and will double check when I get back.

I'd be using a clincher rim and want to use a Record hub.

I'm sure I have one I could spare.

Is the bike 6s or 5s? I ask because 74 cold go either way, meaning the axle could be either 120 or 126mm.

Send me a PM to discuss further and possibly work out a deal.

My understanding is the only reason they're rumored to have existed at all is because they were in a catalogue once, but near as I can tell, they were never actually made, at least not put in circulation, and no one has actually seen them. There are after market ti axels.

I thnk it's correct to just call them record.

Thanks. While I'd like to find a complete wheel set, I think I could take a shot of building a wheel as well. Either way, I'm trying to buy or build a wheel as close as I can to the original. In addition to the hub, I'd like to find a gold finish freewheel as well. Having said that, let me provide some detail. The original owner rode the bike on hills near Seattle. He took the original wheelset to a bike shop and purchased a new wheelset geared for hills. He inadvertently left the original wheel set and Campy high flange hub at the bike shop. When he went back to get it, it "was gone."

I'm not exactly sure how to measure what should be the correct axle size. The measurement from the inside of each dropout to the other dropout is approx. 129.19mm.
If it helps ID the correct hub/ axle, the front Record hub has 18 holes on each side. I'm guessing this is what is referred to as a 36-hole hub.

I'll post a few pics of the current configuration and the bike, in the event someone knows what I'm shooting for.

Pics of the bike as it stands with a shot of the rear hub/ axle:

BTW, the more I read the stuff online, I'm confused. Is this a 10-9 or 13-9?

Also, slightly off the topic but the PO also mentioned he had the brake cables replaced. I'd like to get the original cables (guessing they were black). I noticed a few on eBay but the specs are different. Can anyone shed some light?

Also, and back to the topic, I'd also consider going with a 700c wheelset on front and rear but I'd need Campy Record hubs/ aluminum wheels. A gold-finish freewheel would be perfect but not a game breaker.
