Shopping for new electric tandem

Shopping for a tandem electric bike for me and GF.
I weigh 200 and she weighs 120, and we are seniors.
We currently have a Daymac electric tandem that's getting old and want to replace it.
The following features would be nice:
Light weight
Built with rust proof high quality materials, aluminum, stainless, titanium, etc.
Love to have independent pedaling, one can pedal and the other not.
"Townie" style. Want to sit upright and comfortable. Not into high speed.
Price is not an object but don't want to go crazy expensive
Thoughts?

I'm not aware of a bike that has all of these characteristics, but fooferdoggie 's suggestions are solid.

If you really need independent pedaling, you could also look at da Vinci Designs Tandems | Performance Handbuilt Tandem Bicycles | Independent Coasting Drivetrain (davincitandems.com). Not a "townie" frame, but it does check many of your other boxes.

I don't know much about eBike motors, but they do offer the option of a Shimano STEPS EP8 motor.

out ofd the three top motors Shimano, bosch and Brose. Shimano seems to have the most issues and not great support from Shimano.

Light weight, rust proof, independent pedaling, upright, comfortable electric tandem... I think you've just described one of Chinook's recent e-tandems. There's a photo gallery here. It's one of the few tandems with independent coasting where both riders get their power boosted by the electric motor. Chinooks are all custom sized, so you could get an upright position and townie styling.

We're very happy with our Hase Pino, which is available with a Shimano Steps system. The stoker is up front, in a recumbent position, and doesn't have to pedal. The captain is in the back, in an upright position. It's not fast, but then, we're not a fast team. The recumbent position up front allows the stoker have a great view without the captain's back and butt in the way.
