My favorite daily ride. A FX3 upgraded to 2x11 ultegra

Ride this one at least 2 times a week. An Electra cruiser upgraded with all the takeoff parts from the FX3. Now a 1x9 thumb shifter.

An old favorite “road” bike I put fat tires back on. A 1999 F700.

And my most beautiful bike. A 2005 Litespeed Tuscany. It only sees rides on special occasions.

I use old school rigid MTBs converted to dropbar. They make fantastic dirt/gravel road riding bicycles or fantastic off-pave road touring bikes or even touring bikes if used with narrower tires.

I don't know if I posted images before in this thread but here are a few of my Clyde dropbar converted MTBs.

Cannondale

Giant

Miele

Miele changed from cantilever brakes to V-brakes.

2000 (about) Dean. Made about 40 miles from me. Dripping with not only US made parts but a fair number of parts made in Colorado.

In action near Medina, NY in 2015 (Pokin’ Around the Poconos) before the red rims.

It's a Lynskey R260 titanium, disk brakes, Shimano Di2 drive train. I've got a 46cm handlebar on it, a Brooks B17 saddle (love), and a set of custom wheels that I built myself. I call them the AeroClyde wheelset. The tires on the bike are Compass (now Rene Herse) Stampede Pass tires, which are 32mm wide (nominal).

The wheels are made with LightBicycle rims, 46mm deep and something like 28 or 29mm wide, drilled for 36 spokes both front and rear. I used White Industries CLD hubs. The front spokes are aero spokes, the rear ones are standard double-butted round spokes. I'm assuming that the LightBicycle rims are pretty tough, and with 36 spokes both fore and aft these wheels feel like they will be durable as hell being ridden by a very heavy rider, while also being about as lightweight and aerodynamic as any semi-deep carbon wheelset built for a very heavy Clydesdale has any chance of being. You're simply not going to find a commercially offered semi-deep carbon wheelset built with enough spokes to be sensible for a very heavy rider.

I weigh 250lbs on a 6'5" frame. These wheels are Vuelta SL37 aluminum aero wheelset. There are 12 aero spokes that look to be 2.3mm up front. 16 aero spokes of the same guage in back. I have hundreds of miles on this wheelset without a problem.

I had a really good experience years ago with a 26" aero MTB wheelset from Vuelta with 24 spokes front and back. Never had any problem offroading with that wheelset. I bought this wheelset keeping in mind that it might not last very long. I have had zero problems with them..I recently retensioned both wheels but they didn't need much. As you can see I gravel road this wheelset but mostly ride pavement with it. 32mm Gaterskins for tires.

2006 Salsa Las Cruces. This is the highest mileage bike I own...about 25,000 miles. It’s my workhorse.

2006 Dean El Diente. It’s my least ridden bike. It’s fun and fast but not very practical. I got the $3000 frame for $1500 from Dean. Probably because of the tall head tube that someone specified and decided they didn’t want...after putting half down.

Arrived yesterday -- Twin6 Standard TI FSU 29er. Contacted them about a frame or a custom build and found out they were preparing a house build for '21.

I've got her assembled but not dialed in yet. Grabbed the picture before I ran out of light.

Thank you! I'm quite smitten with her at the moment.

The only other mountain bike I've had was an X-mart goliath circa 1995, and the last bike that I bought was a Surly Cross Check in 2013 (rim brakes, tubes, and compact crank 2x10 setup). Going to the realm of modern mountain bikes is an eye opener. Boost? Disc brakes? Hydraulic? Holy cow that 1x cassette is the size of a dinner plate. I hopped on last night pedaled 30 yards and realized I didn't even know how to shift (quickly figured it out). Looking forward to some time in the saddle this weekend.
