Should we try to be constructive, or obtrusive?

Oh noes. The horror. Better we were all neofacists.

OP, wasn't me, if that makes you feel better.

Chipcom and the OP sitting in a tree..... why can't we all just LOOOOOOOVVVEEEE each other? But then if we did, we wouldn't get this wonderful thread that's kept me entertained the last few days.... so, forget what I said and keep going at each other's throats! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

42 is a much better number than 47.

It's the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everying

But 47 is a prime number, while 42 is a mere composite.

Yeah, you really need to grow up a bit. Should everyone be super "nice"? Sure, I guess, but that'd make life boring and you'd take it for granted and be sour on everything else.

So one guy didn't stop, ok, he assessed that you were fine, had tools and were about done with your 10 min change. The other guy asked and you said no, so maybe next time he won't bother to ask.

In my car I seldom stop to help cyclists or pedestrians... should I? I wave to everyone when I'm riding but sometimes my tongue is hanging out and I'm concentrating on making it up the hill, am i offending others?

I do what I can, when I can, but jeeze, you seriously should toughen up.
Unless you laid it down, were bloody and calling for help, taco'd a wheel etc and the roadie cruised past and laughed at you, then don't bother making a thread to complain.

It is Chipcom, more likely any other cyclist would hit him on the head and take his pie.

I am obviously a self-centered jerk because I stop to help every cyclist and driver I pass who is broken down. Shame on me.
As so many people here have already told you, the problem seems to be you and not those whom you seem to hold in so much contempt. You are telling crazy stories about the people you see and imagining their regard of you and their intentions. Speaking for myself, I always ask other cyclists who seem to be experiencing difficulty if there is "anything you need," and almost always I'm told that "everything is OK." You would probably have told me that too. But to be fair, I have my prejudices too and some of them come from having been sneered at by guys in street clothes on "crap" bikes when I'm on my road bike in my kit. It seems to me that some hipsters are never really happy.

Some possibilities for why the roadie didn't stop:

1) He thought you had it under control.
2) He didn't have any help to offer you as he doesn't know how to change a tire and didn't have any tools with him.
3) He thought you looked dangerous.
4) Perhaps he doesn't speak English.
5) He was in a hurry.
6) He didn't notice you.
7) He just didn't feel like stopping.

Kind of a leap to extrapolate one incident into some broad generalization about all road cyclists.

Last year I had a TT rider ask me whether I needed help while I was taking a break.

I don't feel you have been specific enough, when you say "if you don't like it" it's quite a grey area.

Instead of telling people to ignore your thread (which is negative) maybe you should tell people what you would like them to say in their replies (which is positive).

Agreed, when I still had my Harley other riders would bend over backwards to help a fellow biker. Team kit clad cyclists won't even acknowledge you. That's just the way it is. Get used to it.

The one exception I've found is bike commuters in downtown - those guys are always really really friendly. It's pretty awesome...unless I'm trying to change a flat tire and they keep bugging me! lol haha

Sad to say, but it's a behavior we encounter pretty often. Our local cycling community (Central coastal Ca.) is very close, and a wave is expected and appreciated. But when I ride in other communities -- particularly the San Francisco Bay Area, many of the people whose dress suggests they are indulging in racerboy/girl fantasies pretty much ignore attempts to be friendly. Chalk it up to Asberger's Syndrome. I'm not talking about people training at their anaerobic threshhold, but folks just out for a spin.

After more than 30 years of serious cycling, and more years than that of commuting, wrenching and building bikes, I'm pretty self-sufficient if something comes up, but I do appreciate a "howdy" on the road. Does that make me a whiner? We're a tribe, and one that most people don't understand and a handful of people regard with hostility ("GET OFF THE ROAD!").

Last weekend, I grabbed my fixed gear, wearing street gear, and took a spin up and down the coast. For what it's worth, this 52-year-old male passed every rider encountered but one and we all found the breath to say "hi." And, the only one I couldn't catch was a 30-ish woman, just in case anyone cares.
